2008 Edge Arriving when?

Hi,

When will we be able to walk into a Ford dealer and test drive the 2008 Edge?

I'm kind of leary of American cars, I've owned 3 GM cars in the past (a pontiac, a geo and a chevy) and they all had similar mechanical issues, water pumps (delco dexcool), window motors/actuators, other funky problems.

I've also owned a toyota (scion tC) and a Honda Civic Si and i've never had issues with either of them.

Is Ford's quality better or similar to GM?

I really need a vehicle that I can jump in and drive without thinking, oh jeez is it going to work this time?

Thanks,

BMF

Ford's quality has drastically improved in the last few years. If you look at the cars launched since 2004 they've been nearly bulletproof - Fusion, 500, F150, Explorer, Edge, Mustang, etc. The Edge/MKX definitely have some new components but I wouldn't expect any major reliability issues. The Fusion has been out for almost 2 years and it's proven more reliable than a Toyota Camry or a V6 Accord - no reason to think that will be drastically different.

And if you didn't see the latest news - Ford reduced it's warranty costs by $700M the first half of 2007. That's a significant achievement.
