Tobias
I have a 2008 Edge Limited with 92,000 miles. I just got an cost estimate from my local Ford dealer that it would cost $380.00 for spark plug replacement! Is this the going rate?I live in Racine, WI. What have you paid for this???? (I know that the plenum needs to be removed).

That will give you the best idea as to what the going rate is in your area. Let us know how you make out and good luck. :beerchug:

evh
Note, I plan on replacing the plugs in my 09 this weekend. I ordered the OEM Ford Motorcaft replacements, delivered to my house from RockAuto, for $24.51. Gives you an idea of the labor cost.
Platinum White
Doing a spark plug change is NOT rocket science. I did mine on an 09 SEL last month, took my time and finished in about 2 hours. I have a theory about Service Depts. at dealers. Once you visit, YOU WILL be BACK for something else. I have 71K on my Edge now. The last time it was at a dealer was for a Sirius radio replacement in Jan of 2010 and haven't been back since. My Rule #1 Don't pay someone else to do something you can do yourself.

For those of us who are rocket scientists, however, it's sometimes better to let someone who is a real mechanic work on our cars.

Unless the dealership hourly rate is $160-$320 dollars per hour this us not reflective of the going rate.
Tobias
The Ford dealer was $350. I called the Lincoln dealer... $250 + $30(if a new gasket is needed). Also - where is the PCV valve located?
Loosecannon1
Most techs in dealerships get paid flat rate , in other words if a job calls for 2 hours and I complete it in 1 I still get paid for the two hours. The PCV valve is located in the valve cover and will require you to remove crank vent tube from the valve which is screwed into the valve cover, once removed you will have no option to replace the pcv as the locking mechanism is damaged during removal. Good luck Edited April 13, 2012 by Loosecannon1
2007Edge
my mechanic changed mine for 40$ :>)
Feirstein
The only issue with the plug change on the Edge is with early 07's. They sport an extra wire going to a heated PVC valve. If you don't know about this extra wire you will think you have removed everthing needed and pull on the intake valve to remove it and wind up breaking the wire. (Yes, I speak from experience). Be careful out there.
showmanmd
I had a coil go bad in my 2007 5.3l edge and the mechanic quoted me 815.00 to change plugs and coils..I bought oem coils plugs and gaskets from a company in Tennessee for 200.00 I am a 33yr old woman..I changed all of them completely by myself in under 2hrs..I didn't have to replace any tubes.. Believe me if you have a 8mm socket it's definitely worth doing yourself and saving the money

Redbow
I'm due a 60K checkup on my 2013 Edge. Have a promotional service reminder with a price fo $299.95 for the service. Is that a good price? I live in Greenville, TX. Burke
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
300 is a pretty standard price with plugs and pcv valve included. I think it is reasonable for a dealer rate.
