Adding tweeters to 2012 SEL

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has added factory looking tweeters to the A pillars on a recent SEL?

Since it didn't come with the Sony system, I'm looking at adding new speakers with front components. I'm just wondering:

i) Can the front A pillars be ordered from ford with the built in tweeter grills? I don't want externally mounted tweeters.

ii) Is there a return cable in the standard SEL wiring harness from the door speaker up to the tweeter location? If not, how is one expected to get a cable from the door speaker x-over up to the tweeter?

Thanks!

I. Yes.

II. Put them in the kick panels.

Are you saying put the x-overs in the kick panels? Splice the x-over into the body harness in either kick panel and then run a line up to the A-pillar?

Now I'm assuming that the audio wiring is easily accessible in the harness back there?

Thanks.

Yes to all of that.

Hi, thanks for all the replies.

Since you're on the ball with all of this, what's your best suggestion to get some real EQ out of the non-Sony head unit in an Edge? Are there any options. I cannot stand Bass/Mid/Treble. I would love 7 or 8 band. You'd think it's all software based, so why doesn't ford put a more flexible EQ in there to process the audio better!

Also, if down the road I put a sub in the back, where's the best/safest place to tap into both the left and right channels for a Re-Q?

You should look at something more like an Audiocontrol DQL-8 summing your 8 normal channels to 4, and 2 full range all-combined left and rights. Then run all that through an Audiocontrol DQXS, then to amps and subs. Take your 4 channels and run them to components in the 4 corners. The 2 full range go to the sub amp, and use the crossover on the sub amp. Leave the center alone and run it off of the stock head unit.

That's option #1. It's $$$$$. How far do you want to go?

I also have a 2012 ford edge without the sony sound system... i wasnt even a block away from the dealership when i knew i had to take those ugly ass speakers out... so i bought a set of infinity kappa components 6x8... mounted the midbass at the stock door location and the tweeter where the sony tweeters are originaly mounted in the A pillars... once you take off the pillar covers, you can actually see the template of the hole that ford uses to mount the sony tweeter.. so its pretty easy... but no wire harness was in there, so you have to run wires to them... also watch out for the side curtain air bag its pretty close...

Yes to all of that.

Dingo I got an answer to the problem Id pm'd you about earlier & he told me I need to get the Audison Bit One, it's on order & I'll leave feed back later. cwatkins, if money is not an issue then you should look into the unit I'm about to get installed, the unit itself sell for around $800 but then you need to add another $150-200 for tuning the system.
