Went and did it after a lot of searching and research. Got a used 2011 Limited in silver with the charcoal interior. I love it! And I am so glad I got the Limited, that stereo is awesome!! Also, so far, I am really liking the myfordtouch everyone is complaining about. That being said I do not have navagation, have not and probably won't much use the voice commands. It seems to work just fine. and easy to use to. Even the wife likes it and can fiquere it out...... just dont tell her I said that. ;)

Limited59, great to hear someone else is happy with theirs also. I really like mine. And it sure is nice having a site like this to go to for info. But, this site seems to consist a lot of people that are negative and unhappy with theirs (hear a lot of bitchin). Kinda sad. Last one I belonged to was much more positve eventhough the truck I had wasnt perfect.

Hope to hear more positive things.

It's only a few people who have had really bad experiences. Hopefully this won't be an issue after the upgrade.

However there are much larger number that are frustrated with the overall performance and poor software design. As you say, hopefully this won't be an issue after the upgrade but until then, it's unresolved.

I was referring only to the few people here on the forum creating most of the negativity referenced by CaptKirk. Yes, there are plenty of people who are somewhat frustrated just as there are plenty of people who ARE satisfied as evidenced by recent posts. It's not all good or all bad but seems to run the gamut from no problems to really bad problems.

Define "only a few"

Many have backed off from posting issues here due to being threatened by the "moderator".

and..let's not forget the posts that are deleted if they don't share the "moderator's" point of view.

"... I do not have navagation, have not and probably won't much use the voice commands. ".."haven't had any problems, but I don't drive it every day... six months only have 2,500 miles "..."It's only a few people who have had really bad experiences."

Ā

Come on lets be FAIR with the broad strokes. Seems like adults can present much better.

Ā

MFT beat the competition to market but it has MAJOR issues. Ford tried to fix- Base software attempts to fix in 1st year 1.8, 2.3, 2.4, 2.7, 2.8, 2.11- failed to fully fix & is now in process of a full re-release of a new compete rewrite & Large press campain to do it & will release this back in time to the 2011's & 2012's. That is not done for only "a few". I am sorry, but those words stretch the meaning. And to think you are a mod. that made the "few" commentt. Rrrr---

Ā

We do undertand what I guess your are trying to say- not ALL owners have issues & the ones that do have issues Scream pretty loud & possible skew the perception of full picture.- Do not get too swayed by the LOUD screamers if your car works fine. That would be fair. right?

Ā

But the ones in this thread that say it works fine do admit to not being the primary driver, low milage, not really using all the features to the fullest, not having all the features on the car, etc So lets take that into full consideration.

Ā

Everyone wants a car to work properly. If you bought a 2011 back in 9/10 & were one that has issues- boy it is a long wait to resolve & now you see the other cars playing catch up & possible passing ford- IE "Cue" for cadi,

So- if car works fine- great. If car has issues- we are still waiting & waiting.

Yes, it's a mix of experiences - good and bad. But why would Ford invest the millions they have into a complete re-write of the system if there weren't significantly more people having a negative experience than those that are OK with it?

Ā

You keep making it sound like it's a balanced situation, and it's not. Ford's actions prove it.

"somewhat frustrated " was another quote by the Mod that tilts that balance & was not wisely placed. A " me culpa" & move on maybe in order...

Ā

The problem is the people who have had bad experiences take everything that anybody else says totally out of context.

Ā

Where have I EVER indicated that these MFT problems weren't real or that Ford wasn't 100% responsible?

Ā

Where have I EVER indicated that Ford shouldn't fix these problems or suggested that the problems people weren't legitimate?

Ā

The only thing I'm trying to "balance" here are the facts. If I point out that SOME people are not having major problems - that doesn't contradict the folks that ARE having major problems or vice versa.

Ā

Ā

Like I've said before and tried to point out again and again

Ā

SOME people have really bad continuing problems

SOME people have had almost no problems (for whatever reason)

MOST people are in between with varying levels of problems.

Ā

The software is garbage. Ford screwed up big time. It's not acceptable. They're trying to fix it but it's slow. Hopefully this means they'll get it right this time but we'll have to wait and see.

Ā

Now stick to the facts and your experiences and stop worrying about whether other people are or are not having problems or why.

Ā

At this point the only thing that really matters is whether yours is working or not and when it gets fixed.

That is incorrect. Where have I ever said that? I've quite clearly stated in many posts that mine is my daily driver and has been since I bought it last October, and I still have had no, zero, nada, zilch problems with MFT. And I do have Nav though that is used rarely, as being a daily driver, I usually know where I'm going LOL.

Ā

Anyway, this is the new guys "welcome" post - why do so many naysayers have to jump in to piss in his corn flakes? There are other forums and many many posts exclusively for complaints, or even bitching and whining LOL. Those few who seem to want to turn just about every post on here lately into a bitchfest really is starting to take away from this forum. You got problems? I sincerly hope you get it fixed with the new update, if not, keep bitching at Ford - at this point, on here, you're only hurting your point, not helping it.

Ā

Back on topic, congrats again to CaptKirk on the new ride and enjoy! :)

The negative posts would not be so prevalent if the moderator would not argue with the posters.

The arguments over opinions are uncalled for and only prolong the discussion.

Scorpio...Slow down...My extracted quote was not from your post- you jumped the gun.. CaptKirk & Limited were the extracted quotes. AND it was not to "get" anyone angry-or scare a new guy. It mearly point out relevant facts!!! - ie A low mileage driver & a new guy about 1 mth -that do not have strong bad experiences but stated that they do not use the system to its limits- & may inturn not see the possible crash & burn issues over time or under heavy usage of system resources as many others have- I guess you and others excluded. And hopefully they will never see it cause they can put on the upgrade when available. I bought my fullly loaded luxury Lincoln back in 2010 when they came out & have seen over time the performance, inexperienced dealerships, miscommunications, etc . I'll leave the mods replys alone- not my pissing contest.

It's the 'net I know, and things get skewed *L*, but I was responding to this particular statement "But the ones in this thread that say it works fine do admit to not being..." as I had previously in this post replied that mine worked fine...broad strokes ;) . Just trying to keep it to facts as well, but again I digress. Thanks for the clarification though and happy motoring! :)

This is why I'm asking everyone to refrain from making comments about OTHER people's experiences. Nobody really knows what someone else is or isn't experiencing therefore it creates unnecessary friction.

And that works both ways. I would not allow anyone to tell the people who are having problems that they're not or that it's their fault.

Hmm every thread seems to degrade quite quickly. I'm kind of glad the biggest issue with these vehicles is the infotainment system.... and not something drivetrain or fit-and-finish related.

Ā

I said I was happy with him, given the low mileage. I am the sole driver of the vehicle but I don't need to drive much. It's true I don't use all features of the MFT. I have never plugged my iphone into the USB port but I have used stereo bluetooth, played music from USB, use voice and navigation all the time.

Ā

And I never said I didn't have issues with MFT v 2.8. It has glitched on me a couple of times and froze once. It is a computer and works fine most of the time so I can live with that, and it doesn't make me feel any less glad I chose the '11 Edge.

I've had my 2011 Limited for 10 months now. Love the MFT, Love the car as a whole. Although I feel sympathy for those with problems, there are an outspoken few that are a little too radical and misrepresent the facts. Aside from the fact that I agree with Akirby's sentiments, I also need to point out that it's nice to have a moderator whom is actually involved with the community (in discussions) and not one that just lurks. I feel he's been more than fair with warnings. I've seen Akirby make concessions in debates.

Ā

I'd definitely recommend the Edge to family, friends, and readers. As someone who works in customer service (not automobile related), and as a consumer myself, I think it's wise to exercise caution when buying ANYTHING, and you should try any car prior to commiting to feel out the systems and try to spot issues. Obviously somethings are not always evident on inspection, but there's nothing without risk.

  • 5 months later...

We have a 2011 SEL. We've hade it about 14 months now. I don't drive it daily. It is the first car that I have been excited about and I bought my first car in 1963. I've had both new and used cars over the years. As far as MFT is concerned, once it decided to reboot at a most inconvient time when I needed the backup camera. Other than that, no problems. Took it to the dealer once to get their special on an oil change. Got the tires rotated for free, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it to the dealer for the oil change. We have about 7,000 miles and I have had the oil changed twice. Overkill, I know, but the first time was because I was concerned about the low mileage being bad (I'm old schoool) and the second time we were going out of town and I didn't want to take any chances.

Ā

I love driving this car. :hyper: Some call it a truck, I call it a car. My van is registered as a truck but I call it a car also.

Ā

(Is there spell check on this forum?)

Glad to hear you love the car. I too, am old school, even though they say oil changes every 7,500 miles, I do my wifes MKS & my MKX every 5,000. Funny, my wife calls the MKX a truck, maybe because my previous rides were 3 Explorers. On my registration, it's classified as a wagon !

I( just call it my "X".
