rcbbdl1
So after adding a kenwood navigation to the wifes 08 Edge (Garmin is so much better than TomTom, always seems like he wanted me to go through the ghetto) I want to add a rear camera to it now, I would like the one that comes on the 2011's that is mounted above the license plate but I ran across this today on eBay.. It's suppose to replace the right license plate light and add the camera... Opinions please?

It will look more like "factory", then those that are mounted over the license plate. A "go for it" in my books.
wlepse
You say it replaces the light....if this is true you may want to doublecheck your local laws. Some states may require all OE lights to be functional.

sweetdantender
I'm going to order one and then do a review on the forum. How did the installation go? Did you by chance do a review? Looking to add one to mine asap too. Thanks
e350 coupe
You get what you pay for. Our screens are capable of 800x378 and if you use a low resolution camera, you will get a terrible picture. I ordered a couple of camera's off of ebay that replace the license plate light and I was severely disappointed even when hooking up to the built in picture on the reverse mirror. 2 things you should look for are resolution in the right format and lux. for resolution a min of 640x480 and in NTSC format not the european PAL format. for lux I used camera's down to .1 of a lux .5 should be ok this is what the camera see's in the low light or dark. I used to buy kits on ebay that average around 140-210 each just for the camera. In the lens you really do get what you pay for. I have a 2012 edge and a 2010 mercedes and I can tell you the camera lens in the mercedes far exceeds the quality in the edge. The edge is good with it's night quality and 8" screen however the mercedes far exceeds the edge in sharpness and night quality.

e350 coupe
I used to use these when I was modifying 2009 camry's that did not come with reverse camera's They have excellent quality and everything you need including under lip license plate mounts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/eclipse-bec-108-back-up-camera-/280785413340?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41601d64dc#ht_2649wt_1025

Haven't gotten everything hooked up yet... But if anyone knows which wire is needed for the reverse wire hook up at the shifter for the radio signal please chime in! rcbbdl1
Did you ever find out where the reverse wire is at? Not yet, I'll sit down this week and look at the diagram and see if I can figure it out. I plan to install the 2011 tails in my 08 so I can do everything at one shot.
rcbbdl1
Did you ever find out where the reverse wire is at? After looking at the wiring I found the reverese signal wires also feed into the rearview mirror to cut off the dimming on the mirror... I popped off the pillar trim on the drivers side, theres a green plug below the air bag, on the left side of the plug you will see the grn/brn wire going to the mirror. I used a t-tap and hooked my wire up right there. I know the wire is suppose to be somewhere lower on the floorboard but seeing that ford didn't give much room to work in that area, let alone get the fuse cover off (the cable to the hood pop gets right in the way trying to get the cover out the way), this was my best option, plus they gave me like 20' of wire with the radio so might as well use what I can... Hope this helps, if you have any questions just ask!
