donky4444
So I have a some odd ball things happen in the last few weeks and they all came to a head tonight. About a month ago while driving I had the check engine and airbag lights come on and the speedo and odo stopped working. Before I got to the next stop sign all the warning lights went off and everything started working properly again. I let it go as a computer glitch. Last Saturday we stopped to pick up a pizza and when we left everything was fine in reverse but then when I put it in drive it acted like the trans was slipping. I stopped the car, put it in park and turned it off. Then I turned it back on and everything was fine again. I figured that the next time I took it to the dealership I would bring these "glitches" up to them. Tonight we went over to the Detroit Area for Chirstmas Eve and on the way home the you know what hit the fan. I was going about 78 with cruise set and all of a sudden the cruise turned off. I looked down and the airbag and check engine light were on, the speedo was at 0 and the odometer said "no odo data" and dispalyed all dashes. I figured I would pull over and turn the car off and on to clear the "glitch" again. Not so lucky this time. Once back on I had very little drive in the tranny and a lot of slipping. I cycled the car on and off a few times and kept trying it but got nothing the the tranny clunked when going into gear. I figured I did enough and called a tow truck. It is now sitting at a dealership lot in Jackson MI which is about half way between where we were tonight and home. Had to have my sister leave her Christmas party and make the hour drive to come and get us to bring us home. Now we have to wait until Tuesday before the dealership is open and can take a look at it. Side note. It is a 2008 with just over 28,000 miles on it. The factory warranty ended on 11/29/11 but we bought the Ford factory bumper to bumper warranty that gives up coverage until 11/29/15, the only thing we pay is a $100 deductible. The tow was covered by our insurance road side assitance. I guess the good news is that the worst thing we face is the $100 deductible and the hour drive back to pick it up when ever they get it done. The bad news is that I havea feeling it is more of an electrical problem than a tranny problem. Hopefully just the BCM and it's an easy fix but my luck just isnt that good. Does anybody have any thoughts as to what this could be? Merry Christmas!!!
JOEHIO
Who knows what could be wrong with it, sounds like it might be some kind of computer glitch. Thank god you took pout the extended warranty, some may differ, but to me, it;s worth it's weight in gold. Had it on my '06 Explorer, paid for itself time and time again. Let us know what the problem was, and hopefully it's nothing major. Edited December 26, 2011 by JOEHIO
donky4444
After doing some more digging through the forum on this topic I found this topic http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/3514-odo-data-error/page__p__27392__hl__odo+data__fromsearch__1#entry27392 This is exactly what was happening last night. Now I just have to wait until Tuesday when the dealership is open to see if it is just some sensors. I will keep everybody posted on the outcome. donky4444
She is all fixed now. It was the output shaft speed sensor that went bad. Dealership got it replaced and we went and picked it up tonight.
JOEHIO
Glad to hear that the problem was resolved. Cars of today are so advanced from years ago, but can be a real PITA with all the sensors and electronic gizmo's.
