JohnPR
2011 Edge Sport. I asked my dealer to have a look at the glovebox light - it wasn't turning on when I opened it. After some investigation, he told me that he discovered that these cars do not have a light in the glovebox. What??!! Are you kidding me? The center console has a light. The door map pockets have lights. There are lights on my feet and passenger's feet. The door handles have lights. The outside mirrors have lights. The back seat passengers have lights on thier feet. The bloody cup holders have lights. But where I need it most, the glovebox, there is no light?? Fine place to save 50 cents, Ford. I would gladly trade rear passenger feet lights for a glovebox light. Is it just me, or is this really logical??
wlepse
It does seem silly but keep in mind that the lights you speak of are teh ambient lights and are an added package over the standard vehicle. But the good news is if you do a search here someone has a nice write up on how to add lights to the glove box.
akirby
Most people don't care so they took it out to save money. You still have the front map lights. What scenario would benefit from the glovebox light? I really don't use mine other than the owner's manual.

Ā Ā Without a light, hopefully you won't shoot someone with your flash light or cpr mask instead.
Dingo
Without a light, hopefully you won't shoot someone with your flash light or cpr mask instead. Ā Okay, that was pretty funny. If I leave it in its holster when I drive, it stabs me in the side, so I just move it to the glovebox holster when I get in.

JohnPR
Oh man, we keep all kinds of stuff in there; sunglasses, curly cords, notepad, flashlight, map, etc. The one that got me on my rant was the wheel nut lock for my McGuards; couldn't find it in there initially, but couldn't see in there either. It gets light so late and dark so early this time of year that it seems like it's always dark when I'm in the car. I guess I was just shocked more than anything. The last car I had that didn't have a glovebox light was a 88 Civic, so didn't really realize that any manufacturers were still stuck in the dark ages..... ha ha. JOEHIO
My '12 MKX has a glove box light, maybe the wiring is here in your Edge, just need to buy the light..........something that your service dept should know about (the wiring, that is). There's the answer. Ford kept the glove box light out of the Edge so they would be able to make the Lincoln owners feel like they got something extra for their $$$.
JOEHIO
Yeah, mabe I did spend quite a few "extra" bucks for my MKX, but am loving every friggin minute of it. :happy feet: I'm well over the "50 year old mark", and feel at this point, I deserved to "spoil the shit" out of myself, I'm going around only once, and this is what I've wanted. By no means, did I intend to offend any Edge owner, they are great trucks too. My post was only intended so that it gave JohnPR an avenue to look into. No offense taken and I can relate to where you are coming from. I was just trying to make the point that Ford does need to hold back options from the Edge so they can sell the MKX also. Options like glove box light and cooled seats.
JOEHIO
No offense Wilson66604, just trying to help out with the possibility of putting in the light. My wife's '09 MKS doesn't have either a glove box or light in the console, something they should have put it. Joe

ls973800
Cant find this link, anyone knows where it is? Ā Here's the only one I found. It is adding LED lights to the center console and the glove box. Should give you a good idea of how to add to the glove box and where to pick up power. It was done on a 2008 but the same basic ideas should work on something newer. ls973800
I looked up the parts for a 2012 Lincoln MKX glove box light. I found a switch/wire assembly part # 8A5Z14413A but could not find the light/bulb itself. I don't believe the light is a part of this switch/assembly I found. This is for after 02/06/2012 Sale price of $15.93 Ā http://www.wholesalefordparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=1130613&ukey_product=8822941 Ā I also found this on eBay which shows a better schmatic of the parts. On the schmatic part number 14413 is the switch/assembly I found in the above link. It looks like a bulb (part 13466 on this eBay schmatic) plugs into the rear of the switch/assembly. I guess you would just have to wire the switch/assmebly into a hot and ground point. I haven't found any wire harness yet. Ā http://www.ebay.com/itm/8A5Z14413A-Ford-Switch-And-Wire-Assy-Control-/250885974749 Ā I'm going to order one and see if I can get it hooked up into my 2013 Edge. I sent the forum sponsor a message to see what his cost is on this part before I order from a non-sponsor. NatG
I can't say the lack of a light in the glove box bothers me. The map lights are located in such a way that they illuminate the box, anyway. Not that I have much in my glove box: a can of cleaner for the interior, and gloves (how unexpected). Ā On the occasion I want to store something securely, though, it does bother me that the Edge does not have a locking glove box.
