simadownow6988
Hi all, I thought I would tell my story on my system. I know theres alot out there, but I thought I would do my own thread so some of you can keep up on it. I bought a 2011 Ford Edge Sport loaded with every option on 5/10/11. We drove 4 hours to get it since there was limited availability on the Sports in my area. After signing and loading up, we took the long trip back home which gave us plenty of time to familiarize ourselves with the nav, touch and sync. This thing was amazing! Fast response, great sound, and nice nav. We couldnt be happier! We had no issues at all until the first week of Nov. The system was operating real slow, nav was telling us it had problems, Sirius would show different info than what was playing, screen went black a few times, and maintenence was continuously coming up. I called the dealer and told him of the problems. He told me that there was a update out to fix all these issues and it would be faster if I did it from home. I went to WalGreens and purchased a USB card and did the update (took 45 minutes!). After the update, the system seemed to work good again, at least for a week. The same stuff was happening all over again, so I called the dealer back. He then instructed me to bring the car in for a check. I brought the car in last Friday morning, The dealer called me that afternoon to tell me that it was ready. Upon pickup, the service advisor told me that they had to do a update to the hard drive. The update I did from home was a software update and installed correctly he said. After leaving the dealership with the car, I noticed everything worked great from there back to work. After work, on my way home, the Nav came up with a SD card fault and wouldnt work at all. I called the service guy and told him. He knew I needed the nav for the next day (Sat) for our family trip. He had me do a bunch of different things, but nothing worked. He apologized and told me he cant get the car back in till Monday. So I had to go out and buy a Garmin Nav unit to use for our trip which upset me a bit. Also, while we were on our trip, the system completely malfunctioned and we had nothing for the remainder of the trip. Not even radio. Heres a pic of the screen after it went out: Monday, I took the car in first thing in the morning. They got it in immediately and I went to work. I got a call that afternoon from the service guy telling me that they needed to keep it overnight. I let them keep it. Tuesday I get a call from the service guy telling me that the service tech couldnt figure the problem out and had called Fords engineers. The engineers told him that some box that controlled the system was bad. He ordered the part and it came in today. He told me today that they will be installing the part tomorrow and checking it. Hopefully this will fix it, but reguardless, Ill let you guys know what happens tomorrow..... -Jon
richy
Jon, Sorry to hear about your issues. When mine has acted up, which has only been a few times in the last year, I disconnect the battery negative cable and use a wrench to touch the negative (disconnected) cable to the positive (connected) one. This grounds it. Wait two minutes and reconnect. That has always solved my problem so far. It's a 10 mm wrench if I recall.
simadownow6988
Thanks for the input. Ill try that if it acts up like that again. UPDATE: I picked up the car Saturday because I had to work late Friday. The parts they replaced seems to have fixed the issue. Everything is working great. I tried using the nav, radio, and sync and everything works flawlessly. Actually, I think its much faster at responding to commands than before. If anything changes, Ill let you guys know. -Jon
KonaBlueSport
I can tell you from experience that it will be a short lived respite from problems. The part that was replaced is called the APIM basically it's the brains of the sync system. I have had that replaced and countless visits later I'm still having issues. The dealer visits seem to help for a week or 2 but after that the various issues come back little by little until I'm right back where it started. I don't know if my sync system will work every time I get in the car. At times everything works perfectly, the next time I get in my phone will not pair up at all no matter what I try. As it stands anyone asking me if the Edge is worth considering I tell them no look at any other mfg other than Ford. I can only imagine how many sales Ford is losing due to negative word of mouth. Jean
We bought a brand new Ford Edge Limited 2012 6 weeks ago. We choose this over other vehicles we test drove because of the towing package. We liked the extra cargo room as we travel extensively. We have had nothing but trouble with the "My Touch". We had driven 800 miles when the system went down, including the radio. Not even radio for the next 800 miles!!! I called Ford. They said to check the fuses before doing anything else. We took it to a Ford dealership where we were staying. They spent hours on it, finally determined it was a module which they had to order. Another trip back so they could put the module in. It's been working OK but we keep getting messages --- either the "phone is disconnected" or the navigation needs update, etc. We've had 3 "portable" Garmin GPS units which I still say "are the best"!!!! I have no idea why I decided to take one of our portable GPS with us on this trip but it's been a very good decision. The 'MY Touch" lady not only can't understand me but will not let me give her a simple address" or spell something. I wanted "Roseville" - she kept saying other things, put up a list of names ie: Rosedell, Rosebell, etc. none of which were correct and I had no opportunity to SPELL the word. We had to travel quite a distance 2 days ago. I put the exact address into our portable GPS which took us right to our destination. Maybe "SHE" will eventually learn my voice but in the meantime, I am so frustrated. I understand the safety issues for someone trying to manually enter a destination on GPS "while driving" but there should be no reason that a passenger shouldn't be able to override the voice commands to manually enter information. The ONE thing that we really like is the "back up camera". I doubt if we could ever give that up now. Needless to say, we're not happy with "My Touch" in the short 6 weeks we've had the vehicle. I hope our experiences improve.
simadownow6988
ANOTHER UPDATE: Well guys, sad to say, but the problem is back. Last night all the gauges went blank and came back on a couple seconds later. Upon restart of the touch system, it gave us another SD Card Fault message. This is a brand new card that they replaced with the module. This morning when we started the car up, it still says the message. I called the dealer back and got a appt for tomorrow. Also called Ford Customer Service and let them know about the issues. Ill keep you guys updated....
simadownow6988
Just posting to let you guys know that the car is still in the shop. The dealer cannot figure it out and the engineers at ford are scratching their heads. The dealer has supplied us with a 2012 Taurus as a rental, so at least their trying to keep the customer service levels up. Ill keep you guys posted. simadownow6988
UPDATE: Got the Edge back on the 22nd. Everything worked great until that night. We went to shut the car off after we drove it and everything shut off but the radio. I tried everything to get the radio to turn off, but nothing would work. I finally pulled the fuse and reinstalled it. After that, the radio shut off, but we are still getting the Nav error messages, and the gauges shut down for a second once on the 22nd. Evidently the media hub did not fix the issue. Today, I wrote the lemon law letter to Ford and sent it out certified mail. Arkansas LL states that I have to give them one final oppertunity to fix the problem. If they do not respond within 10 days of reciept of the letter, or they do and dont fix the problem, I can demand a replacement or a refund. Ill keep you guys informed...
