epsanto2
Well, I checked and did not see a button or release on the headrest unit. There did not appear to be a way to modify the angle. If someone can tell how the previous post said it was to be done, I will check again. Thanks

akirby
You can adjust height, but angle. One person with a 2012 had pictures showing the headrest at different angles and that was also confirmed by another 2012 MKX owner. Do you have a 2012? wilsons66604
The 2012 Edge manual only discusses the height adjustment. It looks like you will need to push a button on both stems to remove the head rest. Some people have turned them around so they lean backwards. UPDATE I checked the 2012 MKX manual and it looks the same as the Edge. It states: Your vehicle is equipped with front row head restraints that are verticallyadjustable. Do you have a 2012? Yes, it is the 2012 Edge Limited. I was asked in the introduction forum if the angle of the headrest is adjustable, I checked the manual and it said vertical only, then someone said they seen a post where they were adjustable. Me, I am happy with the angle, but someone asked me if they were adjustable, hence my earlier comment. onewomanarmy
We just picked up our 2012 Edge last night and the front headrests do adjust forwards and back. You pull the headrest forward and it almost sounds like a ratchet - several small clicks that allow you to stop it in several positions. To tilt it back again, just pull it all the way forward and then push back. This is on a Limited. Hope that helps! (I haven't moved them vertically yet.) martunes
No kiddin' ?! I wonder if the '12 headrests will slide into a '11 seat I'm hoping to determine that this Sat. when I go to the dealership for a service appt. Strange, it appears as if some 2012s are shipping with adjustable headrests and some with the old fixed type. We now have confirmation that a 2012 Ecoboost and a 2012 Limited have arrived with the adjustable headrests. The dealership I called went out to multiple 2012s on their lot and found them all to have the old fixed headrests. It's a conundrum. JOEHIO
Got my '12 MKX this past Monday, and the head rests are 4 way adjustable. Up and down, and they have multiple settings for tilt. When you tilt it fully forward, it releases, and goes to the normal straight up and down position. A big improvement over the ones in my wife's 09 MKS. I will check the '12 MKS's, and if those headrests are 4 way adjustable, might order them for the MKS.
Gimp
I'm hoping to determine that this Sat. when I go to the dealership for a service appt. The dealership I called went out to multiple 2012s on their lot and found them all to have the old fixed headrests. It's a conundrum. I have the Ecoboost you mentioned and wanted to clarify that it's an SEL, but I have the upgraded leather seating. I'm not sure if cloth vs. leather seating makes a difference. I also wanted to mention that my vehicle was built early in November. I don't know if it's possible that the first 2012's off the line didn't have the new headrest and it was just cut into production. As you noted, it's odd if a dealership checked several 2012 vehicles and didn't see a change. The sales rep at my dealership didn't even know about the design change until I told him. I can't imagine why Ford wouldn't make note of this due to the unpopularity of the previous headrest unless they're just waiting until they clear the 2011 models off of the lot. Here's the thread where we were discussing this if anyone wants to see the pictures: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/8607-new-2012-ecoboost-sel/ It's nice to hear that others are reporting the change as I was feeling like I was a guy with a too good to be true story. akirby
There is also a chance that the ones who say it doesn't tilt just aren't trying it the right way. I know one was looking for a button and there isn't one.
Scorpio
Nope, mine definitely do not tilt - must be a newer change to later 2012 builds.

martunes
Just got back from my visit to the dealership. On the showroom floor they had a 2012 Edge Limited, and the headrests were adjustable! Nice, smooth ratcheting action with a multitude of angles possible. So, clearly the newest 2012s that are coming off of the line have tilt adjustable headrests. I then went over to the parts department to discuss my findings with them. They had no knowledge of new headrests, and neither did their parts database. The only part they shows fits both the 2011 and 20012, which must be the old fixed position headrest. The parts guy said that it can take about a month to get new parts into the system and that I should check back at a later date. On the subject of fitment of the new, adjustable headrests into the old seats... logically is seems to me that there would be no problem. The current replacement part shows that it would fit both 2011 and 2012 seatbacks, so the new, adjustable part should fit as well. So, I'm confident that I'll be able to buy adjustable headrests for my 2011 in the near future. It looked like the price was going to be in the $175 - $200 neighborhood.

wilsons66604
My 2012 limited does not have ratcheting headrests. Vertical only I wonder if you could smooth talk someone at your dealership. I had ratcheting headrest in an old Toyota. They were very handy. My friend was able to be more flexible with her hair-dos.
