repeater09
Hey guys, I have been trying to ind some kind of information about this and Ford was not much help... I have a 2011 Ford Edge Limited (bought it yesterday) and when i was turning I hopped a curve and jacked up the plastic Chrome Clad (not the rim just the plastic part) pretty bad and it looks like the chrome-clad could just be taken off and replaced with another one...is that true or do I have to do what Ford said and spend $696 and buy a new Rim?...the rim is fine nothing is wrong with it its just the plastic chrome part.... I can provide a Pic if that would help!
mrdave
Your best bet would probably be ebay. The chrome clad part (plastic part) is not detachable from the wheel itself so yes you do need to get the whole thing. It's probably possible to replace just the plastic part if you really knew what you were doing, but I don't believe you can buy it separately so you'd still need another whole wheel anyway. repeater09
Wow that really sucks...why would they make it like that?...i mean I have a 2005 mustang and I've hopped 200 curbs with no issue at all...very disappointed in that
mrdave
why would they make it like that? Aluminum + chrome cladded plastic is much lighter than a chromed steel wheel.
radicon
You are pretty much out of luck far as repairing your chrome clad wheel. The cladding is not removable. You will have to replace it. I did the exact same thing to my front wheel within a week of owning my 2011. I parked my 2008 edge for 3 years in the exact same parking spot with zero problems. The first time with the 2011 I rubbed the curb and scratched the plastic chrome right off. As of yet I have not replaced it. Ford wanted $800.00 for qty (1) 18" wheel. I just make a point to not look at that wheel.
jlong
I just make a point to not look at that wheel. Same here. Kind of like fixing a rattle or squeak is as easy as turning the radio up, LOL

fishx65
I have not purchased a set of rims since the late 70's but I would think that 800 smackers would come very close to covering a nice set of aftermarket aluminum rims. I remember that late 70's purchase, a set of 5 spoke chrome Cragars for the old Hotrod 77 T-Bird!!!!
repeater09
yeah thanks for the responses was pretty disappointed that it cannot be fixed.....why would they go so cheap on the part and not make a cheap solution ?
LuvMyEdge
In case your still looking for a solution, I found this website that sells oem style wheels for $349.95 and free shipping. http://www.hubcaphaven.com/edge_wheels.htm I just screwed up my front wheel on my 2011 limited yesterday! :angry2: I was so bummed to find out that they are not repairable. I had a 2007 that the tire place scratched up and they ordered me a wheel from this company and it looked just like my others on the '07, so I plan to order a new one on my '11 from this site. Hope this helps

ablb
Sold our hub caps on Craigslist for $500.00. Added a few hundred??? Can’t remember exactly how much, BUT a whole lot less than Ford wanted for ONE hub cap. ab
