Ford Maintenance Protection Plan

Hi everyone…. We are picking up a new Ford Edge, Limited nest week and are wondering what your thoughts on the Ford Maintenance Protection Plan (FMPP) and the FMPP Plus.

Thanks, in advance.

Cheers…

If you plan on taking it to the dealer for every scheduled maintenance and doing everything they say to do including all the inspections, then it's probably a good idea. But IMO that's overkill. If you just have the dealer replace what needs to be replaced per the OM then you can probably save a lot of money - even more if you do your own oil changes, etc. There really isn't a lot that has to be done for the first 100K miles if you check the maintenance schedule.

This is my first car under warranty. I purchased it in January. In relation to what "akirby" said about doing your own oil changes... is there a need to document your own oil changes to show that you keep up with maintenance in case there is a warranty claim later on? My dad recommended that I write down the date, mileage, and oil/filter each time to keep a record. What do you guys think?

It certainly won't hurt but to be perfectly honest if you have a lubrication related failure (and they know if it's a lubrication related failure just by looking at the failed parts) it won't matter how much documentation you have and that includes jiffy lube receipts. There is no way for Ford to know whether the work was done as stated on the receipts and if the right product was used. Just because the receipt said they used motorcraft 5w-20 doesn't prove that's what they actually used. If you have the work done at a dealer then it's in their system and that *might* get you off the hook.

But as long as you do proper maintenance the chances of having a lubrication related failure is extremely small and not really worth worrying about.

While looking up something else, I came across this. Even though its old, I thought I'd chime in. I just had my 80,000 KM service on my 11' Sport. I do a lot of heavy traffic highway driving, which may have added to heating up my brakes, but for whatever reason, I just had all 4 rotors replaced (warped) and new pads in the back. This was all coverd under my FMPP. The strange part is that I'm not at an interval where they change the cabin air filter, but they said it should be replaced, but that wasn't covered. I didn't fight that one as I was actually quite happy to hear they replaced all my rotors and it didn't cost me a dime...I guess I had already paid for them in the FMPP, but I got that really cheap during the "Employee Pricing". I don't remember exactly what I paid, but I think I've already broke even and I have the 120,000 or 150,000 KM FMPP so its all gravy for at least the next 40,000 KM.

So for some it may not be worth it, for me it's already paid for itself.
