dwright64
The wrench light on the dash came on today - I'm in sales so I'm in and out of the care many times. Sometimes it comes on, sometimes not.... Owners manual just says take it to the dealer - ok no problem. I would still like to know what "triggers" it... Thanks! baum
Many different things can trigger it. its a ckeck engine light. i would try and take it to an autozone if you have one near. they have a scan tool and will scan it for free. your dealer will charge you shop time. most likely even just to plug it in. dwright64
Thank you... I ended up taking it to the dealer. Will let you know outcome. OK Dealer said the problem is a 4WD controller box - $680.00 It's my understanding, that without it, but AWD will not work. Took 2 days to diagnose, but eventually showed the code they needed to see to know this is the problem.

Well, How much would the warranty have cost?

akirby
Triple Ouch! The average for full coverage up to 7 yrs/100K seems to be around $1500.
dwright64
My MKX is a 2007 and has over 100,000 miles on it. To date, the only mechanical issue has been a worn out Tie Rod end. I average about 40K per year, so the car has been good. Just to clarify, my impression from the Service Manager was the AWD controller just wasn't "talking" to the computer - and that triggered the fault. Also, the controller was approx $300 and the other $300 was labor, would assume tracking down the issue. I know it's not fair that I'm ticked, but the expense from the dealers are outrageous. Anyhow, I'm fairly sure it wasn't something I could have fixed. Edited November 7, 2011 by dwright64
