raven
Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and new to the Ford Edge. I just bought a used 2009 SE this past weekend. One thing I would like to do is install the rear view mirror with HomeLink and Temperature. Currently I have the auto-dim Rear view mirror, so it does have power going to it. Is it easy to swap these mirrors? Does the HomeLink/Temp mirror use the same wire connector, making it plug and play? Or do you have to cut into the existing wires and re-wire this? I understand there is probably another wire for the thermostat that needs to be run somewhere. Does anyone know where this is suppose to run to? I found a couple posts about others doing this swap, but I never saw a "How-To" for this and I was wondering if anyone who has done this themselves could post some tips. Thanks. baum
Since you will have to go aftermarket you will need to do some wiring. its not a plug and play operation. unfortunately all the ones with the temp also have the compass that i can see. I believe that with these mirrors you need to wire a module to the front of your vhicle for the compass and temp. see the link there are many different ones there: http://www.buycheapr.com/us/result.jsp?ga=us13&q=homelink+mirrors now here is the kicker. the ford mirrors are a PAIN in the A$$ to remove. some dealers wont even take them off since they are soo hard to remove. raven
So the Ford Rear View Mirror with HomeLink and temp sensor Part # 4L3Z17700B will not work? I thought people were using this Ford Part which is what I want to do. I know I can go to a Ford Dealership and have them order the part (4L3Z17700B) and then install it as well, but I want to install myself. --- Thanks for the warning about the mirror, I have heard many people say this before, I may take it to an auto glass shop to have it removed. baum
you will still need to run the temp sensor to the engine. It appears to be made by gentex some of those on that link i put are that brand. i couldnt find any installation manuals so i dont know what the install is like exactly. if i could find one i could tell you. boscomp
I am seeking to do the same in that I have the auto dimming mirror installed on my 2012 SE but would like the mirror with the homelink feature, specifically the Ford part 4L3Z-17700-B-E09. Minus the temperature wire routing, will with existing connector work on the homelink mirror? I would also be interested to know if the homelink visor could be installed on the SE? Mine has no powered mirrors but I am curious if the power cable for that was still ran and hidden under the headliner/a panel. Thanks!
