turnerms98
So my wife has a 2010 Edge, and while on her way to work tonight she calls me and asks me if I could hear her car. I absolutely could hear it over the phone. It was a loud humming/whooping noise that got louder upon acceleration and then quieted and then louden upon stop. She then called me back a few minutes later after I told her to get off the interstate and call her mom for a ride(I'm also at work). She reported to me that upon full stop the noise got terribly loud and then a big clunk and now no noise at all. Her mom swapped cars with her and drove it home, and reported no more noise at all. My wife stated that she also felt a vibration through the steering wheel as well. Now, any ideas? I no that if the noise is not present or no proof the dealer will say cannot duplicate so I guess we will wait and see.
railroad
I would go by my favorite tire store and ask them to pull the tires and look for any signs of something rubbing. If nothing shows up there, ask them to put it on the lift and see if anything looks odd on the floor pan. It sounds like she ran over something or something went under the car. It could have been in a tire area, hence the vib. The tire people can turn the wheels, checking the halfshafts. Pop the hood and check the fan belt and cycle the a/c on and off. Unless it does it again you are just searching for a clue. good luck,
turnerms98
I halfway believe she had a rock in the tire/brake area that was rubbing as we have had major road construction in our area, and when she stopped that one time and it clunked popping loose. I drove it today, and drove it pretty hard and had no problems, and the she drove it again tonight to work and with the road work her normal 20 min drive took 2 hours, and still no report of noise, so we will see.
