wlepse
OK, so a couple weeks back we drove down to SC for vacation in the Edge and one of us must have been speeding and got picked up by a Maryland photo radar set up. On the back of the letter I have to make a plea and my options were basically guilty, not guilty want a court appearance or I wasn't driving. To be honest I am not sure if I was driving at that point or not and really could care less if I pay the fine ($40) or not but I am more concerned about the points since NJ kills you on insurance to begin with let alone having points. So does anyone know if Maryland transfers moving violations to NJ? I also need to check with my current insurance carrier. My previous; State farm, ignored violations that were less than 15mph over the limit. This ticket is for 67 in a 55 so it might be a non issue anyway. Like most or all states that use cameras it is a fine only. No points because they simply don't know who the driver is.
wlepse
I thought the same thing but if I pick the box that says I wasn't driving it says I need to prove I wasn't behind the wheel. In another part of the letter it stated that I was responsible for the fine as I am the registered owner. So with the two statements I was afraid checking the box of guilty means I automatically agree that I was the driver as well and points could be issued. Maybe I should check check with my insurance agent to see what their policy is...if this would be disregarded anyway it isn't worth discussing $40 bucks. Just not sure how to bring that up without raising the red flag.
wlepse
Well I found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver_License_Compact So it appears Maryland and NJ do share info but NJ will only assess 2 points regardless of infraction. So next step is to see what the insurance says.

wlepse
Wow good find...thanks! I did find another site : http://www.stopbigbrothermd.org/ They seem to have a big issue with the speed enforcement cameras. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if we were doing 67mph on I-95 as that is typically what everyone is doing if not faster, so I wouldn't fight it but this site might be useful to those that think their citation was incorrect. cal3thousand
Only place in California (that I've heard of) is Beverly Hills. If you go a tick over in a 25MPH zone, get your wallet ready. No points though.

PrinzII
In the not too distant past, Arizona had speed cameras all over the Phoenix metro area. For instance, if you traveled west on I-10, you would see cameras within a 2-5 mile distance of one another until you got wayyyyy out of Phoenix. However, they took the cameras down due to the fact they weren't making the revenue they had hoped. But if you got flashed, just a $181 fine, no points. PrinzII
Looks like more cameras are coming down around here. Tempe seems to be taking some of theirs down.
wlepse
This was a big issue in NJ recently for the red light cams. It turned out that they had documented before the installation that the timing was correct. So they were all shut off until they could be tested and they claimed all were correct. Then I heard some story about reporters being taken out to verify operation and they found they were off. Hopefull it will be a continuing trend that these start coming off line. PrinzII
Agreed. I actually clocked lights without cameras versus lights with them and I did see that the lights with cameras were faster because the camera (or scamera) companies change the timings to trip people up. wannabang
Cameras have been being set up around me, too. My cousin and uncle are both cops, and they said, due to the inefficiency and lack of care given, if you pay your fine within 24 hours, you shouldn't worry about point because usually it won't be recorded and they'll just take the money, since they haven't processed the ticket.... or something along those lines.
