Cappy
I currently own a 2005 Ford Escape that I love. It has 70+K miles on it and I was thinking about trading it while I can still get some money for it and upgrading to used 2011 Edge. Am I foolish and should I hold onto my 2005 Escape? From a financial standpoint - sure, but don't let that stop you. I usually don't. That's quite an upgrade but you'll take a hit on fuel economy. That and the cost are the only downsides I can think of.
NatG
Not to disagree with akirby: my friend has a 2007 Mercury Mariner V6 w/ AWD (an Escape basically), and he's averaging the same mileage as I do in my 2011 Edge AWD. I think it depends on Motor and Drivetrain (4 cylinder likely to get better mileage)

I think it depends on Motor and Drivetrain (4 cylinder likely to get better mileage) I guess I was assuming the Escape was a 4 cylinder. Ford has made a lot of technology improvements in the new V6s. My 06 Fusion 3.0L is terrible so I wouldn't doubt a new Edge could get the same mileage as a 3.0L Escape.
john747
I came out of a 2003 V6 Escape Sport in to a 2011 Edge LTD. Mileage is the same or better, especially on the highway (6 speed). Although I had a hard time giving up my Escape, I love my Edge and have no regrets.
