2011 FORD EDGE WATER PROBLEM

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had this issue.. I currently own a 2011 Ford Edge SEL. I noticed that there was water coming thru the rug and mat on the drivers side floor. I brought the Edge in to be looked at by a water specialists at the dealer, they determined that the weather stripping around the door had to be replace, however that did not work. I am still getting water on the floor. Please respond if anyone out here has had the same issue, or could possibly know what is wrong!!

I had a 2000 Impala that had water in the passenger side. Had to take in in three times before they got it fixed permanently. In my case debris was falling into the condensate drain hole an plugging it up. It was enough of a problem that GM issued a TSB. I don't think that this is your problem, but it is at lease worth asking about.

Do you only get the water after rain? Do you have a sunroof? We also own an Audi A4 that is plagued with sunroof drain problems. Most of the time the leaks are up high by the dome light and sunroof controls but I have heard of people having leaks low as well. One person in particular had a tie strap that was tightened too much causing the tube to break and dumped the water into the footwells.

I encountered a similar problem woith an '86 IROC Camrao I owned. The left rear passenger's foot well and rug got wet when it rained. I pulled up the carpet and sprayed water from underneath while a friend watched inside the car. We found the leak and applied some silicone caulking. I sold the car shortly afterwards because I got tired of problems plus chasing Vettes and Mustangs down the road.

I would sugest that the problem is water accumulating because the drain is plugged from the windshield cowl. Since you are writing in October, it is not going to be related to your a/c system running.....but I believe that the cowl drain is tied into the condensation drain and (in my case) located on the driver side of the car, to the right of the gas pedal. In my case, pull back the carpet and you should see a plastic fitting. From underneath the car, you need to bend back a corner of the exhaust system heat shield and you should find the end of the hose that you need to clear. The hose makes 2- 90 degree bends as it moves up the car, so a good flexible wire may work, try hooking a shop vac up first and see if that clears it. Good luck!

Thank you cjedge08. I had the same issue and was also looking at the door seals, etc. Your reply got me on the right track.

Here is a picture for reference for anyone else with this issue. As you can see in the picture, the hose came loose and was dumping rain water into the foot well. Before I re-attached it, i pushed a long zip tie through to make sure it was not clogged up, and blew the compressor down through the white 90deg elbow.

I also removed the drivers seat, and door trim and B-pillar trim to pull back the carpet and expose the underneath padding. It was soaked, as there was about 1" of standing water in the well, mostly near the pedals as I was parked on my driveway sloped downward. I put a fan blowing on the underneath of the padding to help dry it out.
