nathanial98
I am starting my swap of my factory 6 dsic in my 08 Edge to a factory navigation unit out of a 08 MKX. I have read A LOT about this online and 1 thing is for sure, it sounds like the radio will need to be reprogrammed. My big question is where do you recommend having this done? I have seen posts here and on the Ford Truck Forum stating that a dealership may be a crap shoot. Some say they have had problems with this. Is there someone else you can suggest to do it? I am hoping since it came from the same year it won't be to much of a problem. I am just trying to avoid any headache. I didn't know it was this complicated. Just looking for advice on this part. baum
dealer is the only place.. sorry.. most of the times when you buy one off like ebay or something the seller knows to "wipe it clean" now this time you will have to try a dealer. hoping that you dont need it plugged into the original vehicle to clean it. Zixxer
It's not that bad...just go to RadiosAndMore.com (United) and look at their work orders...I sent a radio off that I got off eBay to repair and they did it no problem. I went to the dealer, they called, I put the workorder in the box and they sent it off....week later, and $200, and it's done.
fifthranger
Why would a radio that is a replacement have to be reprogrammed? I heard that sometimes it happens with other vehicle brands, and I would think due to theft. Anyway, I am in a situation that I hope doesn't require programming. My 07' Edge 1 disc has worked flawlessly except for the display, so there is no way to determine what station or what time it is. This drives me nuts, and eventhough it is my wife's daily driver, I can't live with it. So, I removed the radio and sending it to someone who thinks it is simply the circuit board that he can fix. Anyway, what are my chances that I will have to have the radio reprogrammed? Also, if the radio can't be fixed, I will be buying an aftermarket but non-ebay one.
