Spaceman Spiff
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone else is having issues with their blue tooth microphone. Whenever I use the hands free mic, the folks on the other end complain about wind noise and they are barely able to hear me. The windows and roof are closed when this happens. Any fixes or suggestions? Spiff
wlepse
We didn't have this initially but it started at some point and the latest update did nothing to fix it. I did read here someone had a TSB applied that helped but I think it was an update they did to sync so ymmv.

If it sounds like you're in a windy location maybe your AC vent is pointed towards the microphone.
wlepse
Well it is the wifes car so i am the one that hears it. But it is definately not the vents....sounds very much like road/wind noise. But what is weird is that I don't hear that much noise when in the car so I can't see how the mic is picking up something I don't really hear myself. I just don't want to go dealer just for this issue. I was hoping someone on here would have a fix. Spiff

That's what mine sounded like until I pointed the middle vents downward. Once I did this the wind noise dropped considerably.
wlepse
Well it is worth a check...next time she calls and I hear it I will ask her to shut the HVAC off.

Spiff Hello, well we are 5 in our company who have now Ford Edge 2011 and the bluetooth microphone is really noisy at over 90km/h or 50m/h and I went to my dealer and they try first isolating around the mike and change it but still the problem stays!!! The peoples on the other end of the phone hear real windy because I keep saying to Ford peoples that since they change the location of the mike from the rearview mirror to direct on the headliner the mike catch more of the aerodymic of the SUV because it is closer to the roof but no one want to do anything... So please call customer support and tell them. Thye have a kit to try other location and fix this problem... We all need to support. Thanks

fishx65
Not really a fix but I would try running your cellphones directly to the auxillary port. I connect my phone directly to the auxillary port in my 2011 and everyone I've asked on the other end says it sounds perfect. I would guess that most higher end cellphones have superior mics to anything that Ford installs. I know it's an extra step and you have to switch the stereo to AUX but I find it a much better option then lots of noise. It even sounds great doing 80 mph down the highway. That's good work around for these folks in a pinch. But really they shouldn't have to. We were sold on the technology, it should work (and work well, at that)

wlepse
Had the wife switch off the HVAC and no change at all, so this isn't from the vents at least in our car.

I'm the only one that drives my car, so I guess I'll have to try and test it with someone else this weekend. I'll report back my personal findings. Spaceman Spiff
I got my Edge back from the dealer. They performed an update. There may be a minor improvement but still not good enough. Sighhhhh. I will have to take it back. I wonder if a windscreen for the microphone would help or not? Mine still is noisy and the dealer doesn't seem to intent to replace parts until Ford comes out with a fix Spiff
wlepse
Nothing here but haven't taken the car in. But I am starting to think it is something to do with the software used. I noticed the other day when the wife called while still in the parking lot there was an odd processed sound to it. Then as she got underway it morphed to a pulsating whoosing noise then full on wind noise. When she spoke the noise didn't seem as bad but maybe it is just relative volumes. But it does make me wonder if something they are using to process the sound or cancel noise is the problem.
igcitng
My 2008 Edge mic did not work right from day one. There is a TSB on that one for defective mic and placement. The dealer moved it to the headliner to the left of the rear view mirror. Works very well now. I do not have a vista roof and the 2012 I ordered does not either, so maybe it is something with the vista roof? Or the mic could be defective and they possibly should replace it. I think they are mostly for the blank screen issues.
Spaceman Spiff
My Edge has been in 5 times now for this issue. The dealer has added foam the mic and replaced the mic. It's is a little better but not good enough. Even though the dealer has been in touch with Ford directly, I'll call Ford Sync support and see what they can suggest. I'm thinking that physically moving the mic as igcitng suggested may be the only true fix. Spiff

Spiff Same for and the guy at my Ford dealer told me that he is aware of a mike kit but it at $206.00 so I told them no that it's should be under warranty but the customer service told me that they do not have enough complaints about it so we are back at scare one! If someone has a fix or know something else please let us know because it is really bad! Best regards Youpp99

It's included in the new version of MyFord Touch coming out in Jan.
nkennel
I have a 2011 Escape Hybrid and 2011 Fusion Hybrid. The Escape that I have sounds awful (windy) when I talk on it, and on top of that requires me to turn the volume to full blast to hear the phone (radio works fine) when on the highway. I have now taken this car in about 6 times, and they have now told me they need my phone, as they expect my phone is the issue. The problem that I have is that my Fusion has no problem with my or my wife's phone, but the Escape has a problem with both. ; Do people have navigation systems in their car? My Escape has a navigation system and I wonder if the software is different.
