evandeberg
We bought our 2011 Edge early this year. Since then, it's been in the shop for this problem (or maybe it's two problems) three times, and we're having the problem again. The car has probably been in the shop for about three weeks, but I haven't kept track. The problem: Acceleration/power, especially at low speeds, goes away, and a brown square appears in the left section of the instrument panel telling the driver that AWD is off. If OK is hit, a brown wrench appears below where the box was. While the problem is occurring, we cannot use the cruise control (which was very trying on our vacation). The brown box keeps popping up every few minutes, so after a bit I ignore it. The scary problem is that the engine can surge at its own whim. So far we've been able to control the car, but I don't know how long that will last. The problem seems to occur after the engine is fully warm and then we stop for a short while, with or without the engine running. We were in downtown Davenport, Iowa pulled over and looking at a map when the closest miss occurred with the surging. On one occasion, the surging occurred when we were stopped at a traffic light. What's been done: The throttle body has been replaced twice (the first and third time the car was in the shop). When I asked about why it was replaced again, I was told that the part number had changed. The computer was reprogrammed on the second visit. On one occasion we were given a button to push when the condition occurred, but of course it didn't happen while we had the button installed. Has anybody experienced anything like this? Any suggestions for us? The dealer's service department seems to be out of ideas. Thanks.
Mazz
Davenport, Iowa? Of all places. I grew up in Davenport, Iowa. Still live near there. Not had this issue, but it sounds serious to me. Can the dealer get Ford involved directly with the problem? I'd at least inquire about that. NatG
There's a TSB on the PTU for the Edge. I would look into that. Replacing the throttle body would have been a good approach if your car was simple surging now and then (Ford's have a throttle over-hang for emissions purposes), but if the AWD warning is coming up, I'd think they'd investigate the PTU and the ECM first. kris
Bought my 2011 Limited Edge in January and it started accelerating on it's own in June. Always happens at low speeds. It has been in and out of the shop like 8 times and they have put the computer in the car 3 times for me to push the button when it happens. But it never tells them anything... They have replaced the Throttle Body once... Getting a little frustrated with this and it's starting to make me nervous. The last time it surged forward it almost caused an accident. Anyone else had any issues like this??????
