fishx65
2011 SEL with factory basic single CD system. I want to tap into the front speaker leads behind the stereo to run a line level converter for a small amp and a set of Boston components. Anyone tear into the dash yet or is there a remote amp somewhere?
rogersmj
I tapped into the speaker wires under the trim piece on the driver door sill. Then I ran the tapped wires back to the rear of the car, tucking them under the trim which was super easy, and mounted the RE-Q5 line level converter and amp in the plastic storage bins around the spare tire. I only did my sub on the amp, so I haven't run wires back UP to the harness by the driver door, but the principle would be the same. Was pretty easy overall and doesn't require taking the dash apart. fishx65
Thanks R. Sounds like I can grab the wires were you did and just hide a small LOC behind the kick panel or even mount it under the dash for easy adjustments. I'm gonna get the front stage to sound good before I add my single 10. How is the Re-Q5 sounding with your sub so far?
Dingo
Get an Audiocontrol LC2i instead. It does the bass compensation more reliably, and has outputs for full range and sub only.
rogersmj
The RE-Q5 has full range and sub outputs as well, and I'm liking it so far. Something's not quite balanced yet, but I think that's because I'm still running the door speakers (Infinity Reference) off of the head unit's amp -- the crossover point isn't quite right. I'll probably add an amp for those at some point too. What's coming out of the sub itself is marvelously clean.
NWS Alpine
If you really want to have an easy time setting up your aftermarket or even your stock speakers then look into the JBL MS-8. It's much more expensive but it does have an extremely easy auto EQ system with granular controls after that calibration. Some very long threads across the net with guys using this device for some incredible sound. They usually compair it with the even more expensive audison bit one which does not have an auto EQ so you need someone who is really good with installing these devices and tuning them properly.
