Dingo
I can't find anything that will stick to it. I've tried 4 different double-sided tapes, and even some epoxy. It all falls off. Wtf is this thing made of? Oh, yeah. Anyone got any ideas of something that will stick?
hunter306
Have you tried cleaning it with a Grease-Removing spray cleaner? From the lot, my dash was coated with a armorall or other greasy, oily product. As a result, just like you the GPS dash disc wouldn't stick. Wipe it clean of the greasy residue and it's good to go. Dingo
Even tried that. With alcohol, acetone, and purple stuff. I think it's just still outgassing too much.
jlong
Sorry the following isn't going to be of much help but should give you hope! I found this double sided tape I believe at oreilly that wasn't foam based. It looked like it was rubber based and the backing that you peel off is red. I used it to stick my car dock to the dash of my truck for over a year and never came loose. The car dock I have came with a round plastic disk that the suction cup mounted to. The disk was flat on the top of the dash so it was never holding any weight. I tried to mount it under the ac controls, again this was in my truck with no center console, and it came loose because of the heat and weight I imagine. Dingo
You mean this? Tried it.
jlong
That's it. The cool thing is I removed the mount from my dash when I sold my truck and it didn't leave any residue behind. And it kind of stretches like the 3M command strips, though not quite the same. So removing the old tape from the mount was pretty easy. Dingo
That's the same tape that holds mouldings and emblems and ventvisors and stuff on. It doesn't come off easily on ANYTHING except for outgassing dashboards.
jlong
It is sticky as hell and won't come off with out some serious persuasion but you can get it off cleanly.
Platinum White
I got velcro to stick to my 2009 dash a couple years ago. Cleaned the area with acetone and the sticky side of the velcro stuck.
Dingo
Yeah, velcro actually sticks, but looks like a polished turd. It's alright. I moved the pod down to the side of the center console. Oh yeah, and velcro on the windshield stuck, but over three days, it starded sliding down the glass and melting. I didn't put the velcro on the windshield. The velcro is used to hold black felt in place on the dash to eliminate glare. Its covered so that the "polished turd" is covered. Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. jlong
Polarized sunglasses eliminate the glare or the reflection of the dash in the windshield.
NatG
I personally liked the Cupholder based alternatives. I have a Garmin Nuvi 255W and this worked really well. http://www.arkon.com/cup_holder_mount.php

fishx65
A word of warning about Velcro on a dash. It will permanently stain a dash if left on to long. I found this out the hard way when I installed some tweeters on each side of my F150's dash. It left two tweeter sized purple circles!!!!! cal3thousand
Just thought about it... did you treat your dash with UIGP? I'm pretty sure you were the one that recommended it. (I've been using it as well as UPGP)
