11Edge
Naturally my warranty just ran out but wondering if there is a tsb on this and what most likely is the problem? AC is fine and cold when traveling but when sitting its hot....just started this a few days ago I had this problem earlier this year on my 2004 Merc minivan. The A/C clutch was failing. Required replacing the compressor, dryer etc. Maybe you'll get lucky and it is only the clutch. I can't help you about whether or not there is a TSB. You'll have to take it in to someone that works on automobile a/c.
Waldo
Most likely to be an issue with the cooling fans if it works while driving. How's your engine temperature when idling?

I agree If its not cool when not moving, the fans are not drawing enough air across the condenser to cool it. Do you hear the fan on when the A/C kicks on? 4x4
Im not sure on the fan motor, its my wifes car so dont drive it much.....engine temp is fine as it does it even after cold crank first thing out of the garage...got to be the fans then huh? What kind of ballpark price wise am I looking at for that repair? My dealer wants to charge 100 to diagnose it I agree If its not cool when not moving, the fans are not drawing enough air across the condenser to cool it. Earning the "Stealership" title for sure. Amazon has the part for <$140 bucks if it turns out that is the cause. http://www.amazon.com/TYC-622040-Replacement-Radiator-Condenser/dp/B0041TNK44 This one says 2010 and older... 4x4
ok talking with a coworker who said his ford truck had a similar issue and it was the clutch plate getting stuck and not engaging until enough RPMS were being pushed...he said he took that plate off and removed a wash or shim and as long as there was still some space in there it was fine....so sounds like i have a similar issue although I am no mechanic..i popped the hood today and did not even see the belts....anyone have a schematic of what i am looking for? akirby
Oh? Do tell. I think the implication was that it was WAY more complicated than that to actually troubleshoot a bad fan. And since he's a technician I'd take his word for it. Let's just leave it at that.
4x4
So if the clutch face plate needs repair or replacement, any techs out there want to give me a ballpark on price?
4x4
I assume this is a related issue but today the mkx overheated....the yellow coolant was low so I filled it up with water after it sprayed everywhere...didnt see any leaks...good lord, as soon as warranty expired the wheels are coming off

To be fair, you insulted his profession with your 'stealership' comment which was neither correct nor necessary. L1TECH has been very helpful in other threads. This one had already been diagnosed by everyone else. Let's call it a draw and move on.

bward77
Our 08' a/c works just ok when sitting. It is significantly colder when moving though. Wonder if our fans are getting weak... Edited September 17, 2011 by bward77
Rolz
I have the same problem with my 2009 MKX, blows cold while driving, warm while idling. I found the Motorcraft Radiator Fan assembly for $230, and want to install it myself. Does anyone have quick, painless instructions for how to do job myself? I really would appreciate your help. cbrf4i33
So i have a problem that seems to be identical but want confirmation before i change out fans. Mkx 2007 has been over heating but not all the time. Runs ok for a few days with no coolant leaks and sometimes blowing hot air out of ac when idle position but cold when we get moving. Today it overheated and put key in on position to see if fans where kicking on while truck over the recommended temp and did not see fans come on. Am i suppose to see fans on when vehicle ignition is just in on position and over heated? Also, i started noticing one of the fans staying on after car was shut off when i have never heard the fans stay on before. Please advice if fans are truly the issue or should i also do thermostat?
