wlepse
I have searched around and some have suggested it might be possible to unlock the AV input to allow its use while driving. Not that I am planning on watching movies but I was considering using it to view a car computer screen. Right now we are looking at two Edges...one has Nav and one doesn't but has other features we really want. Since it appears Ford isn't allowing Nav to be added later even though it should be simple, I was hoping I might have another work around to get navigation. I know with Audi you can reprogram the VIM module to allow this and with Subaru you can ground a pin on the head unit...hoping it is something simple with the new Edges too. Does anyone have experience with this?
wilsons66604
I havent seen where anyone unlocked the Touch system. Just get yourself an iPad with nav & velcro it to your dash. Do you really want to hack into my ford touch???? It's having a hard enough time on its own. Hacking it will not help
wlepse
Well I don't want to hack the code....just trick it into thinking it is parked so the AV input is always live and can display the computer screen. But how bad is the my touch? I knew there were issues but didn't think it was a really big problem. More like it might need an occasional forced reboot or something. No tellin what it would do if it was being tricked into thinking it was in park while driving. Heck. While on a road trip last month I blew it's mind just trying to add a waypoint in my route. It rebooted. Good luck! Let us know how it works for you.

Navigation is one area that they focused on with the 2.11 release so it's less likely that the system will reboot since it's less likely to lock up for some unknown reason. Still better than versions prior to 2.8 - if it locked up, it would stay that way until you either shut the car off or pulled fuse 29. They still have a long ways to go but 2.11 is definitely better than prior versions.

There is no rhyme or reason as to why some work great and others don't, but I have to believe that there are more people with working systems then not. You just don't hear from them. Just test the system in the car you are looking at as completely as you can.

akirby
I know it's very hard for you to relate but I'll continue to voice my opinion and share my learnings from being a owner of a failed implementation of MyFordTouch Feel free to comment on YOUR experiences. You do NOT need to comment on other people's experiences. You don't know every single 2011 Edge MFT owner so you can't possibly know who has problems and who doesn't outside of a few people on this board. And stop putting blame where it doesn't belong. There is enough blame for Ford without you constantly blaming them for stuff that isn't their fault. Last warning.
Dingo
Mine works just fine. 2.8.
Fingernip
Mine works fine too. 1 black screen on 2.4 but dealer upgraded me to 2.8 and no problems at all so far. Sync works, bluetooth works, voice commands work. I dont have Nav and im thinking that those without are more fond of the system.
NatG
My MFT on my 2011 Limited with version 2.4 hasn't had any issues. Just wanted to throw that in there.

wlepse
For those who are interested this company has a VIM module for the MyTouch. http://www.navtv.com/product/184/mytouch-vim.html
cal3thousand
For those who are interested this company has a VIM module for the MyTouch. http://www.navtv.com...ytouch-vim.html Nice find. But for that money, I could get a tablet with mounts and a bunch of accessories. I wish there were a $100 option, but even then, I wouldn't use it enough to justify even that. AllAmericanGeek
Search google for "hack myford touch" and this forum topic is the top link. The fact that the following question was asked, and the conversation dove into how crappy MFT says a lot. Well I don't want to hack the code....just trick it into thinking it is parked so the AV input is always live and can display the computer screen. Waldo
Well this is a year and a half old thread. A lot has changed in that time.

whimsey12000
I would like to add that I have only ever had one reboot with MFT. I have the nav as well. I love it! The only complaint I have is trying to use voice commands with the nav. Bit I will fully admit that it's me, not the system. Lol
