tjbron
So I've searched the forums and found posts on the PTU issue, which seem to describe my issue pretty well. The problem is that my 2011 Limited is not AWD, and so I assume it has no PTU. After warming it up, or driving up a hill or something, it smells like hot or burning rubber. Sometimes it is more putrid. One time my uncle thought his neighbors were burning garbage again, but it was just my car. Will be taking it into the dealership in a month or so for its first maintenance and probably the SYNC update (on 2.4 currently). Just thought it would be nice to be prepared with some info when I go in. Thanks!

Smelled just as you describe, hot rubber. salesman brushed it off as new car hot smells.Did not buy that one. Doug-j
Xavier Limon
Did you ever find a solution to this burning smell on your FWD? I have the same issue. Burning smell driving an incline and also while punching it driving flat. I can't figure out what it is.

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The exhaust smell does not discriminate. The natural gas smell is usually a PTU leak, only on AWD models. They are 2 different smells. Have the bumper flaps checked, they might be sticking.
omar302
Have the bumper flaps checked, they might be sticking. Can they be checked without removing the rear bumper?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
You do have to take the bumper cover off, but not the bumper itself. May be able to clean them without removing the cover, apparently no obstruction getting to them.
