Vista Sunroof Sunshade Not Working

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

My sunshade has stopped working. It is in the closed position and will not open. However, The Vista Sunroof will open. Any ideas?

My shade is messed up right now as well. It will open, but the sides came unglued, an wants to wad up on the sides when you open it. Did you get your shade problem resolved? If so, what happened an how much did it cost.

I actually was able to reset the sunshade and moon roof by holding down the closed button on the moon roof for 10 seconds.

I have a 2012 five month old Edge. About three weeks ago the sunshade motor starting making a grinding abnormal noise. I took the car to my local service provider and was told "nothing is wrong, the noise is normal". I argued and lost the argument. Well- three days ago when opening the sunshade - the shade fell down around the sides and would not retract. Back to the dealer and they ordered and installed a new shade. Problem is- they installed it incorrectly!! Now, its back to service once again... Probably my 15th visit since purchase. I truly loathe the day I bought this Edge.

We bought a tricked out 2012 on Black Friday last year, first new car ever. We started having the exact same problem with the rear shade not retracting after about 5,000-6,000 miles. I've been avoiding taking it in because first of all, I absolutely hate the thought of someone else touching our car. I don't trust someone to put everything back the way it was installed from the factory. Incompetence is rampant. That and the fact that it likely deals with either removing roof glass or removing part or all of the headliner. I don't want either of these components to be damaged in the process. And then I read the horror story like yours, Gail, and it doesn't help matters. I just this morning slid the aluminum bar far enough sideways to slide it off the plastic guides that are pushed forwards in the tracks. I rolled it up manually and slid the guides all the way forwards. I figured it was better to just leave the rear shade open permanently than to mess with dealership headache. My wife was super upset, but I don't know what to do now. ~15,000 miles on it. Sure wish I could just get a new retracting shade assembly under warranty and do the labor myself. I really, really, do not trust mechanics... I know that will offend someone on here, and I'm sorry. I've no doubt there are people who know what they're doing, but I'm not currently willing to take that chance.

Gail, how did your saga turn out? Were you able to find resolution?
