tee jay
2010 Edge limited, just bought, nice ride but the delay on acceleration is terrible for 265 hp? It zooms around town with ease but when I get on the freeway I push and push to reach 70 , its like theres nothing between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle and finally it drops a gear to reach that speed. I've had Ford Escorts that would pass this thing getting on the Interstate. Can the throttle sensor be recalibrated or adjusted? Any suggestions on this would be great? carbonedge+
Forget 1/2 to 3/4 throttle...go FULL throttle!
railroad
Probably Ford's programing for mpg. I am sure the tq converter is locked until you try to accel, then it has to unlock and drop down a gear or two to accel. 6th gear and lock up probably too weak to accel a 4000+ vehicle, needs to adj for accel. Might try locking out the OD, see if it is better and mpg doesn't take a nose dive.
carbonedge+
Turn OD off before you start accelerating; if you turn it off afterwards, it doesn't make much difference as turning it off doesn't make it downshift until you tap the brake or put your foot to the floor; if you turn it off before, it will hold 3rd and 4th gear as you accelerate improving the responsiveness and utilizing that 265hp... mrdave
Not sure if the previous model years have this, but I've been using my "manual" gear selector for this purpose in my '11. As others have said Ford most definitely programmed the shift points to try to get the maximum gas mileage out of this large vehicle, which doesn't always provide the best driving experience. Yup! you take that foot off the pedal and let it coast and the tranny is heading right for 6th gear. If you want to get on the highway with some zeal it will have to drop to at least 4th gear. If you pussy foot it, it will go to 5th and try to grunt it out of there. So like Carbonedge+ says, WOT if you get on the highway.... then ease off to your 1/2 or 3/4 throttle after the kick down has occurred. carbonedge+
The first thing I have found myself doing after starting the Edge is turning the OD off. I don't turn it back on unless I'm going over 60 for a good stretch. mrdave, you my friend have a great step above what the lowly 2007-2010 owners have in the form of the 'manual' selector. We can only select D or L and turning OD off helps a little but it's just not the same...

carbonedge+
Why?? That's just how I roll... :peelout: To me it just adds to the fun factor and I like the feeling of the throttle response better; plus I think that MB E55 owner was impressed he didn't blow me away as much as he probably thought he would on Westside Pkwy between Windward and Webb Bridge (when we got to the next red light he gave me a thumbs up); (you may be familiar with that area). I hit 90 so I'm sure he was 100+

I'm always watching for them...they stopped my wife several years ago; that was her first ticket ever... I have to go through there everyday now as part of my commute to Duluth. One morning, I turned off Haynes Bridge onto Old Milton toward 400 behind a dark blue Malibu, dark tinted windows, regular plate; I passed him in the center lane after he moved into the far right lane and still accelerating but probably never reached 55 as we had to stop at the next light; we're side by side; light turns green, I go, not full throttle but aggressive and the blue car is staying with me (I never looked over at it at any point), I didn't think much of it at first due to the normal plates; we probably hit about 55+ or so (in a 45) and then he drops back and I see a quick flash of blue lights from his dash; I let off the gas and then he pulls into the public safety office right there off Old Milton. He got my attention and glad he wasn't a traffic cop...but I'm sure he put the word out to his 'good buddies' to keep an eye out for that dark gray Edge (not too many of those driving around...)
