Advice or tips for a good rain beading coat

Recommended Posts

I live in the Puget Sound area of Washington were its mostly imclement weather throughout the year, which sucks if you're wanting to maintain a clean appreance on your Edge. What I've been doing is on a weekly basis is washing and drying my Edge then applying Meguiar's G17516 Ultimate Quik Wax to the body and RainX to the exterior glass surfaces. Its a helluva chore to go through and normaly takes me a couple of hours to get everything applyed only to see the water and grime accumlate after about four days of driving. It helps that the Edge is stored in the garage at night but during the normal work day its sitting out in the elements which is probley wearing away the coatings I've applied.

My question is if there's any wax or rain beading brand that'll last me longer than a week of daily rain? I've been to a local car wash where they've used a RainX coating on the body that does a great job but dosent last much longer than the stuff I've been using at the house, surely there's something that'll keep the Edge's body water slick longer than a week right?

I'll suggest a few things for you. All of these items are available at Autogeek. I have a funeral home as a customer (I do detailing on the side) and I put a double coat of Duragloss followed by Collinite wax. The Colli is a synthetic wax and is incredible. You need to let the DG cure for 12 hours prior to sealing it.

That combo is hard to beat. It should last you a year with proper wash techniques (not using Dish soap, etc)

Here is another alternative. These 2 products are cutting edge and will give you protection measured in years. The CQuartz is easier to use IMO but both have advantages/disadvantages. You can use them on paint, chrome, ext trim and glass!

If you go this route, you will be blown away by how they react to dirt and water. Live2Detail forum and Autogeek's forum has a lot of info on all these products I mentioned.

I too will be sealing my new Edge with CQuartz. I do plan on also topping it with a synthetic wax to prolong its life since my truck sits outside all the time, mostly in direct sunlight. Live2detail is an excellent source to do a lot of research and reading on products.

I will also be testing out nano diamond shield and will report on how it holds up in the next few months.
