igcitng
Wanted to ask the forum before I have to battle the dealership regarding getting a loaner while my Edge is in for warranty repair. I have always had trouble with my Sync microphone, lo and behold there is a TSB for it so I took it to the dealer in October for an oil change and asked about it. After sitting there for over 2.5 hours they said it needs a new one and that they would order it. I had a day off in December that I planned to drop off the car for the day and get it back later while we did other things. The mic was on backorder. After the holidays I called to see that it was in, let them know I was coming etc. The dealers in IL do not set appointments for repair, it is first come first served. I am told the repair is a minimum of 1.5 hours, not including how long I have to wait for a mechanic to begin on it. The dealer is refusing to get me a loaner, they say that it has to be a repair that is at least a day. I certainly do not have hours to sit there away from work to wait for it. I have talked to two different people about it and before I go further wanted to know if anyone here works for a dealer and if they are b-s'ing me. Do I go back to the service manager or to the dealership manager? This dealer is the most convenient for me. Thanks.

A good dealer would give you a loaner either way - whether Ford paid for it or not.
thinguy
Yep. Up to the dealer. I'm still looking for my Edge, but just last week I had a dealer as part of his selling pitch mention that their service offers loaners. I didn't ask but I think it was "if you bought from us" kind of thing. Several years ago I was shopping for a new car I had a dealer mention that they serviced so many cars they'd have to have another lot just for loaners. he meant it as a "We're big we sell and service so much" brag. He didn't like it when I turned it around half joking and said "That's a lot of unreliable and broken cars". Pretty crappy that they don't take appointments. That's just bad service. Do they offer drop off and pick up service so you can at least get to work/home and don't have to wait there?
Grey
Many Ford Extended Service Plans have a first day rental car option. If this is a big deal to you, look into this alternative. Your basic warranty does not provide for a loaner vehicle and most dealerships would not provide one for same day warranty work.

The loaners they use are rentals, not something off of the lot, so I can see where it would get expensive but so is the car payment and it is still under warranty. If it wasn't broken I wouldn't have this problem. I just went to hell and back getting body work done so this is my next battle. I think trading it in would be easier. Life is too short for this aggravation.
