Jenny Rae Mettee
I have a 2008 Ford Edge Limited Edition. The other night the touch screen was slashed, and is no longer usable. After taking it to a repair shop, I found out that the whole nav unit must be removed in order to be fixed, unless I want to pay top dollar at the Ford dealership (which isn't an option.) How can I remove it myself without functionality of the touchscreen? Is there anyway to control the system via a laptop and the USB ports in the car?Any help is greatly appreciated
baum
Well you really only have a couple options. 1. replace it with a new or used "factory unit" 2. go to an aftermarket (you can get a name brand that has all the bells and whistles dvd, bluetooth, nav for about 500-700) 3.pull it out and send it to a place like this http://www.unitedradio.com/ that fixes them. you would be without a radio in your car for a week or 2. you can not use an external screen. the radio in these vehicles are easy to remove. all you have to do is pull out on the bezel that houses the vents/ climate control. its just held in with clips all the way around. if its never been removed it will be ight to get it out.though.
