pbmitch
Just washed our two week old Edge today and got a little upset about something. While using Windex to clean what I thought was a dark smudge mark off the med. stone colored dash, I found paint was rubbing off onto my cleaning towel. The towel was light blue, so I could plainly see the paint rubbing off. The smudge mark was evidently the dark plastic dash under the paint showing through. Very disappointed to discover this and now I have a darker smudge area on the dash where the dark plastic dash is showing through. Just thought I'd warn other owners. The dash is a painted dash, not solid color throughout. Guess I have to buy a dash cover now, as I'm concerned about messing up the paint. The sun glare off the light colored dash is pretty bad anyway, so I'll get one of those covers. I really like this vehicle, but I hope I don't find more cheap quality surprises. Take it back to the dealer - it's under warranty.

BlazingCopperMetallic
When cleaning my windows, I spray the cleaner onto a micro-fiber towel, then clean the window. That keeps the cleaner from getting on the dash and maybe spotting it.
Tom Champagne
My 3day old Edge has a scuff mark on the dash up by the drivers A-pillar(on the light brown surface..I have camel int.),and I tried to remove it with Mr Clean magic-eraser...BIG mistake..now I have a brown magic-eraser...went to the dealer today and they said it could be fixed without replacing the panel. Have an appt. on 8/2..we'll see if they can fix it...from now on just a damp cloth and some Aerospace 303.

Hi there, I was reading your post and I was shocked that this happens, this is the first time I have heard that the dash board or any plastic painted. If this is true, we are all in big trouble. I am still waiting for my Edge to be delivered, black exterior and camel interior. I am very concerned about the glare and now this??!! I don't know what I am going to do.. How bad is your glare issue? I always clean some spots with windex or mild cleaner and this is the first time I have heard of this happening. Keep me informed as to what they are going to do about it. PS hope this is not a cheap trick from Ford, this is our first Ford and if it is, not a good way to try and gain customers. Bryce
So what color is it under the paint? Sounds like it's black from previous posts. If it is, just one more reason I'm glad to have the charcoal interior... this, less reflection problem and I like it's looks. Bryce

Bryce Yes I would say that the panel is cast in black and painted to match the interior. As long as I'm wearing sunglasses, the glare issue isn't a problem for me. But just in case, they will be made aware of this topic/thread. Good luck...just got my Edge back from the dealership and they refused to do anything about my dash. Camel interior. The paint has come off of the dash behind the steering wheel. Dealership supposedly took a photo and sent to Ford and they declined to repair it. So much for a warranty. I am going to complain to Ford on Monday. Also having electrical trouble. Sometimes the left rear blinker work, sometimes not. Sometimes the seatbelt sensor goes off the whole time you ride down the road...naturally the dealer cannot duplicate the problem. I guess Ford's service is going down the crapper as fast as their stock price.
Ky Bob
I know this is a old thread but I just noticed on my center console which is silver is also coming off and it's black underneath.

It's painted plastic I believe so it should be black underneath. If it's still under warranty take it back to the dealer.
11Edge
Pages 318 and 319 of the 2011 Edge owners manual: "Clean the instrument panel, interior trim, areas and cluster lens with a clean, damp, white cotton cloth, then use a clean and dry wihte cotton cloth to dry these areas." "Do not use household or glass cleaners as these may damage the finish of the instrument panel, interior trim and cluster lens." That is probably why Ford declined to repair the dash. Feirstein
I took it into the Ford Dealer. Apparently Ford does not offer a kit to repair the dash. The dealer's body shop quoted me $375.00 to repair the small area in need of a recoat of paint. Gerrrrrrrrrrr.

I own my own auto body shop, and if I charged more then $100 for that, I would feel like I was robbing the customer.

You used Windex. It's for glass. Don't blame Ford. They go to considerable expense to print the owners manual....and so few read it. I see all these questions on here.....how to clean the seats, the dash, head liner. etc. When to change oil, what kind to use, how to rotate tires, all kinds of questions on here....and the answers are in the owners manual. Feirstein
The real problem is that Ford does not offer the paint or instructions or even a paint code to repair the interior painted surfaces. This is a huge negative mark on Ford's management and may well influency my decision on what make I go with in the future.
Dingo
Not so much. My interior would have at least 5 different paint codes.
