wilsons66604
I think I finally have the car that I thought I was buying in September. Since the update, it's been operating like it's supposed to! The switching to BT Audio and back to USB is real snappy. I connected my iPhone 4 to USB and played Pandora. I then selected BT Audio and only missed a beat of the Pandora stream. The iPhone switched output to match what I selected on the Touch. Perfect! also, Is it me or did the quality of the backup camera improve? It looks really sharp now.

Wilson, I'm relieved to hear your saga is over. I'm going in to get my update on Friday. I hope I don't have any issues afterward. The only thing I'm dealing with now is the night light. wilsons66604
That is the only thing I have ever had - still haven't done the update though. Even if you don't have any problems, you should get the update the next time you go to the dealer. I think the backup camera quality has improved & you'll need the update when the app link software is released
CanuckG35
Glad to hear the updates are fixing a lot of issues. I have an appointment next Tuesday to get the TSB done and get upgraded to sync 2. Hopefully it will go smoothly.
Neil McLaughlin
Thanks Everyone for your comments. I am glad to hear that at least from this group, all results are positive. Old issues solved and no new issues created. (fingers crossed). I agree that the backup camera is sharper. Although, I just washed the Edge and took all the sand and salt off the camera lens!! For those that have reported their Sync installations, they seem to be in alignment with one anohter. Mine included. Not sure everyone saw this on the other forum comment but here is a neat tip to check on your system status: Touch and hold the AM/FM screen sensor while also touching the CD eject button and finally touching the right search section of the tuner wheel. That brings up plenty of information on your system as well as a nifty speaker test. Now all we need is a Ctrl - Alt - Del sequence. Would be much easier than pulling fuse #29. By the way, similar to others, I also dropped the darn fuse puller behind the firewall. I am sure by now that is a common request at the Parts counter! jsabia85
I just got back from the dealer and unfortunately I had to leave my car at the dealer once again. The service department was closed so I was just given my keys from one of the salesman. I got in my car extremely anxious to test out the new update and see how much "snappier" it is. I turned on my car and IT ACTUALLY TURNED ON. After noticing a slight speed improvement (not perfect, but NOT BAD) I was quite pleased. Unfortunately when I went to turn on my nav to go home, all I got was "SYNC APPS" so I thought it was a new feature but it wasn't. I tried resetting the SD card, turning on and off the car but to no avail it wouldn't turn on! After finding that NAV was not working, my Ambient light is not working as well. I didnt notice any difference in quality of the backup camera tho, it looked the same. Maybe I just need to clean the lense. So I left my car there and hopefully it will be resolved by tomorrow. I am currently driving a 2010 Edge SEL as a loaner and I really miss my 2011 limited!
rwolson
BTW, if you're pulling fuses and need a fuse puller, head to Wally World or an auto parts store. I picked up a fuse puller and some fuses for a few bucks. Just might save you from dropping a fuse during the colder weather.

l33
I'm making a request - can someone PM me with a link to the update files (BE) that they downloaded from syncmyride.com. I believe that once they go into the Edge, they are removed from the USB drive so I need them before that point.... anyone help? Until I have had my dealer update I can't download them and I'd like to inspect them to get a clue to what it includes.

I had a similar experience when they did my update, the tech did not have the Nav system working after the initial upgrade, also make sure the Sirius info system (i next to the home symbol) is also working. Neither were working when he thought he had completed the update. Fortunately I caught them both before the tech left and they got it working the same day. It did take him longer to get the two working then it did for him to do the initial update.

Yes, but it is not the best and I was using the puller when I dropped mine. The low profile mini fuses are harder to handle then the regular, especially in the position you have to be to get to the fuses
l33
Just a quick update before I hit the sack. This should really go in the Sync forum in the hack post I suppose but here goes anyway... sorry everyone thats not interested. Ford issue the updates using Image Update which basically means the files in these updates are deltas from the last update (installed on your system at the time you update) - thats why its critical that you are at the right patch level beforehand. The updates are signed with certificates so that stops you modifying them, the car would reject a modified file because the certificate will no longer be valid. The car has a certificate store that it validates against. That does not mean we cannot find a way around this in the future but right now thats where we are at. This is why it is absolutely critical we get hold of the major update the dealers have at the moment - its highly likely that this is a full image with the certificate store and all sorts of other goodies. Its great to see base Windows CE DLLs in the update packages such as ActiveSync - also worth noting is Ford include third party software such as SQLLite and Adobe FlashLite (and knowing how vunerable Flash has been over the last year or so thats interesting). What did BE update? Well, its really difficult to say actually - the only things you can look at are file sizes which tell you a little of the story. There has definately been work carried out on the WiFi and the Virtual Network Interface (all related I assume). These appear to be a Ford change (or the supplier of hardware) not Microsoft. There was a change to the media player, interestingly this change included Windows Media Video decoder update although looking through the rest of the files I have a feeling the update in itself includes a "Microsoft Auto 4.0" (the platform) update, but only a very small revision. So to sum it up based on my gut feel (which is based on experience in this area and evidence in the updates) is this was to improve the WiFi in some way and maybe even stretching to the USB Modem issues many have had (I say that because of the virtual interface update). Of course, I don't work for Ford so I can't say for sure and I could be completely wrong! Edited January 6, 2011 by l33
fdlarsen
My history looks the same as yours. Even with the AJ thrown in the mix What does your confirmed installations look like after the BE update on the syncmyride site?
Neil McLaughlin
What does your confirmed installations look like after the BE update on the syncmyride site? Here is what the website is showing for my system after the large(BD - Sync Gen 2) update and the latest BE update. Name Version Description Status Date BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE CI 1/5/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE CI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE DFI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE RFI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BD SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BD CU 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE CI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE DFI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-BE SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BE RFI 1/4/2011 BT4T-14D544-AJ 1.3 SYNC GEN2 CCPU (AJ) CU 1/3/2011 BT4T-14D544-BD SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BD CI 1/3/2011 BT4T-14D544-BD SYNC GEN 2 BT4T-14D544-BD CI 1/3/2011 BT4T-14D544-AJ 1.3 SYNC GEN2 CCPU (AJ) CI 1/3/2011 BT4T-14D544-AJ 1.3 SYNC GEN2 CCPU (AJ) CI 1/3/2011 Note that the latest shows twice because I did it twice for good measure. Actually, after the first time, the update was still showing and it still showed after the second time. So, I sent a note to Ford Sync and they advised to run the Status Checker and upload the results. Which I did yesterday. As of this morning, there are no updates available. Not sure why the "submit update results" process did not work but the Status Checker results submission may have cleared it up.
tpm419419
Not sure if this is coincidence, or a result of yesterday's update: Remote start now works on the first try, instead of having to do it twice. I noticed the same thing
wilsons66604
A couple of things I noticed this morning after the lasted update... There is now a new beep for cross traffic warning and it seems more sensitive. (It went off when I was backing into a parking stall) As far as I can tell, my ambient lighting is correct. All orbs give the correct color.

I never got the BD update. I had the BE applied at the dealership Here is a Sync thread where a Sync Software specialist clears up the confusion with the version numbers for the update. They screwed up and the BE should never have made it to the website and was not meant for user install. It was meant for dealership install. cirockets
Haven't got my Edge yet but after 9 weeks finally got a VIN. Went into SyncMyRide and the confirmed installations were as follows: SYNC VERSION GEN 2 BT4T-14D546-AG BT4T-14F496-AK BT4T-14F497-AG SYNC COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE BT4T-14F603-AG It listed one update available BT4T-14D546-EB (I think they said update as opposed to upgrade) How many 'updates' 'upgrades' have come out since the ones listed above. TwinDad
As a previous poster mentioned, all references to available updates or upgrades have disappeared from my profile on syncmyride. I have an appointment at the dealer on 1/11/11 (hopefully a good sign) for the upgrade. Other than the time being off 3- 5 minutes every 3 days or so (it's correct and all of a sudden, it's wrong) and a black screen or two, no major issues. I hope this doesn't take away more than it adds! Thanks to all the previous "beta testers"/ posters, your input has been invaluable.
