choff1138
Try donuts with a FWD car...but try em in reverse. Now that is fun! We were so hard on those dang cars - my brothers taught me how to bounce off the snow berms as you go around a corner - make sure you keep the gas on so you don't get stuck. woo hoo! rwolson
Ah, snow! Weather guys forecasting 12 - 18 inches of the fine white power to fall after midnight. I'm heading to work around 5 AM and plan on playing. I've already driven my tank in the snow from a previous storrm and its great.
Edgieguy
I had no problems in New Jersey's last snow. We had about 15", and I charged right through our unplowed street, quite fun actually. The tires seem to perform very well. Tonight we're looking at anywhere from 8"-15" again depending where the snow bands hit the hardest. Ill be out again, yay!
nextime
I have the stock 17' and it handles perfect and has solid traction. The bigger/fatter tires and you will have less traction.
MIK
2011 Limited with the stock 18" rims and AWD tires. Car does great in the NY snow. Just as good as the traded in BMW X3, which was terrific. The two Outbacks before that had nothing on the Edge. I guess Ford knows AWD. richy
I too love driving my Edge now that winter is here. I have a SEL with AWD and mounted Toyo G-02's back in early November. Not real happy with the tires, but that's another story. There is however, something I don't like with the AWD/Traction Control systems. In Northern Alberta, we get a lot of built up snow on the roads that lasts until spring (especially on less travelled residential streets). When you hit one of these patches with a bit of speed, it is easy to four-wheel drift, power-slide, or just plow through a corner or bend. When the Edge starts to drift, my driving style is to keep my foot on the gas and drive through the drift. This doesn't always work on the Edge as it cuts power to ALL the wheels because it can't determine which one has traction. A friend suggested switching Traction Control off, but I haven't noticed a difference yet. Plus, it resets to ON everytime the vehicle is restarted. I would really like the system to recognize that I am not lifting off the gas and, after reading the steering angle, send power to the outside wheels. Anyone else notice this? Any suggestions? (please don't tell me to just slowdown. Winter driving is FUN!!!) Hahaha..what is it about us Canadians that like playing silly bugger in the snow so much? I completely agree with you about how the AWD system works though. I noticed that tonight if you go too hot into a bend, the traction control kicks on and kills the power to all the wheels so you can't power out of it. I had it damned near floored and nothing. Once the system backs off the power spikes and away you go. I just HATE being without power for the second or so it does it. I will say though, powering away from a stoplight is great..no problems there whatsoever. Edited January 12, 2011 by richy

I know with my G when VDC was turned on and slippage occurred it would completely cut the throttle. Good in most cases, but there was a few times I had to turn VDC off. It would be nice to have a hard button to control it. The current setting is not easy to get to. Agreed, I would love to be able to turn it off as well. If the Edge ever gets stuck, it will be extremely difficult getting it unstuck with no way of turning it off........that I am definitely not a fan of. dr00x
I got a bit of an issue with ESC as in although I managed to get into an oversteering situation i.e. the back of the vehicle became unstable and kinda drifted away I did not see or felt the ESC kicking in. This happened twice, once for me and another time for my wife when doing a left turn in slippery conditions this winter. Otherwise the traction with AWD and winter tires seems to be great. MikeD
When the blizzard hit chicago (im in a major suburb about 30min outside chicago) i took the edge out to get a sense of what it can and cant do. I was driving with complete confidence on the stock wheels and rubber. 2011 edge limited awd.
