miskiw
Great minds think alike,,, made that call this afternoon Wilson! Hey Greener.. any update? I am picking up my edge this Saturday in the morning.. will report back on initial impressions
Greener
Hello, all. This is terrible but I haven't driven it since I got it home. We have till Friday left on a Jeep Liberty lease so I have been driving that in this crappy weather here in Ontario. I have been sitting in the Edge in the garage for HOURS playing with the magic and other than slightly slow response on the 8" screen and frustration at the sometimes finicky voice recognition, it has worked flawlessly . It's worked out well this way as I haven't been swerving all over the road playing with this stuff! Don't need and HTA issues, eh Richy? The software version is still the same as was installed on the 24th of Nov when built and it does not show any update required. I did notice is is slightly different version when compared with someone who just got that new update from the dealers. I have finally explored the rest of the vehicle and I think the interior is very nicely done for a North American car. The console size is great, and the mood lighting is more pleasing than I thought it would be too. If I had one gripe, it is because of the weight of the door, the inner handle is way too far forward, especially for my wife's vertically challenged stature. It's her vehicle and I'll have to give her a day of training before she steals it away from me!

MrHappy
Knock on wood, same version as ours, and we've had 2 reboots and that's it. Everything else has been solid (except our phone but it's our phone issue not the MyTouch) My wife mentioned both reboots were when she was in a hurry, started up and took off without waiting for everything to initialize. Since then she's been careful and no reboots. We'll see but man what a ride!

miskiw
I just picked up my 2011 Edge on Friday which already had Gen 2 installed by default. After reading all the issues on this forum for the last few months I am very impressed with sync and have no real issues with any of the features (though I haven't used everything extensively yet). Responsiveness is a non-issue... it's no iPhone.. but completely usable. Radio, Nav, Sirus, phone sycning all working well for me. I am up in Canada so we don't have the sync services stuff ... so that's also a non-issue for me. Start up time is near instant so far.. no reboots or anything like that noticed in 3 days of travel (knock on wood). Overall ... loving it! pcsme
Hi everyone, here's my very first post, purchased an '11 Edge Limited, I'm in the Air Force stationed in the United Kingdom and my Edge just arrived last week, still waiting on registration/plates before I can drive it (hopefully before Christmas!) I've been following many of the forum posts here on this site but none more closely than the Sync-related issues, as this was one of the standout features that attracted me to the Edge. So I registered on syncmyride and here's what it shows for mine: SYNC Version 1.3 BT4T-14D545-BA BT4T-14D546-AD BT4T-14F496-AD BT4T-14F497-AD SYNC compatible software BT4T-14F500-AD BT4T-14F603-AD Anyone have any thoughts on the above? Sure hope I don't have issues like some on here, as our weather has been well below freezing for days.

I wish you a safe tour I just had my car updated by Ford. Still has some bugs so I suggest you wait a month or so. I am a software architect and I guarantee there are bugs in all software to some extent. The reason a developer releases an update is because they found some bugs and fixed some of those bugs. Rarely are developers given enough time to fix all the bugs that are in their task list. You work on priority... so the bug "Sync completely crashes and reboots" is higher priority from "my phonebook pictures don't show up". Working in the software industry.. I would take the updates as they come. Cheers Edited December 20, 2010 by miskiw

I suggest it may be better to wait because the dealers are having issues getting the needed updates from Ford itself. Cars are being held up at the dealer for days on end. My car took 2 full days to get a successful update. This is why I say to wait
bella2011
Hi All, I just picked up my 2011 Ford Edge on Wednesday December 15th. We bought the SEL edition with MFT. My wife and I absolutely love the car. I have been following some of the MFT issues and so far we have not encountered any in the 5 days we have had the car. The only thing that we are dissappointed in is the lack of GPS Navigation in the unit. Does anyone know if this will be available in future releases? My wife and I aren't super techy, so that could be why we haven't encountered any problems. We have both paired our Blackberries without any issues. I went on synchmyride.com and below is what I found. Sync VersionSYNC GEN 2 Confirmed installations BT4T-14D546-AG BT4T-14F496-AG BT4T-14F497-AG Waiting to download 0 items. GPS navigation is an option you would have had to order when purchasing your car. I have the Nav option in mine and it works great. One thing I didn't get that I thought was included was a garage door opener... which is supposedly an option that I had no clue I had to add. (I also have the 2011 SEL Edge)

This is something I definitely would've added. I read some articles online stating that you can buy the SD card to enable the Navigation for $795? Does this seem accurate, or what you're saying is that GPS Nav is not something that can be added to the vehicle afteryou purchase it. Thanks!! I am no expert but I believe the GPS unit is a hardware unit and the SD card holds the map data.... so I believe you would have to have a technician install the hardware unit... not sure if they are able to actually add it after the fact though? you would have to talk to your dealer... but yes.. the cost of the nav option was around $700-

Hello Bella From what I understand buying the SD card is not enough. The My Touch has to be setup for nav. Cannot be added. Had you wanted to purchase the nav it would had to come from the factory at a cost of about 700.00 or so

There is no hardware needed, just the SD card. But you have to find someone who can figure out how to reprogram the system with the Nav software. Essentially you have to "hack" the system as Ford has not made it available for dealers to do.

curlysir
^ Awesome. How do you find everything so far? Quicker respose times? Yes, response time appears to be quicker and the voice commands appear to be working better. Over 3 hours of the Techs time was spent getting the Navigation System and sync info system working after the main download. He had to install additional files by USB flash drive. This was after talking to Ford.
radicon
Curlysir That is great to hear that you got the upgrade to work since you had the black screen of death like mine. I do not have navigation, so mine should not take as long. I will be in contact with your service manager at Five Star in the morning and then will talk with my service manager at Don Davis.to get mine back up and running. I feel like I have been driving one of the old trucks from the farm with no audio at all. The silence is starting to get old.
i20sailor
Had the software update done last week. So far, no more re-boots and most fuctions seem to work as intended. Haven't really noticed it being so much faster. 2 issues remain: 1.- About 50% of the time, the main screen does not dim correctly when headlights are on. 2.- Still getting a message that my Ipod is disconnected eventhough music is playing from it. Only way to remove the message is to unplug the ipod. Now I'm hoping that Ford can get to actually improving some of the functionality.
