Is the Dealer Protection worth it?

Recommended Posts

Hi All --

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into the dealership packages for protection, etc. We are debating getting the interior protection because we do have a kid on the way and we have the camel interior so we're thinking it would be worth the cost and the warranty covering it if a stain does occur. I'd rather not have our MKX look like a beater in a few years.

Does anyone have any opinions or can point me to some reading material on the different packages they offer? Interior, Exterior, Sound, Rust, protections, etc?

Thanks!

100% snake oil. This is like the undercoating offered by dealers in the 80's/90's. It is almost 100% pure profit. Just think for a minute. If a simple procedure could be done to improve the life and quality of the finish don't you KNOW that manufactures would be ALL over it?

This is mostly snake oil with one exception - IF the interior protection uses a silicon-based product AND it comes with at least a 3 year warranty AND it's less than $100 then it might be worth it. You can use scotchguard yourself but it's water based and will have to be reapplied every 6 months.

I used to sell the silicon based fabric protection for furniture and the stuff really works as advertised and it doesn't wear off like Scotchguard. Back in the 80's it only cost us $5 to spray a sofa (we charged anywhere from $40 to $75). I can't imagine it costs more than $20 or so to spray an interior today.

Hello Zentos

Let me shed some facts on this issue. My wife actually sells this service and believe me, it is not 100% profit. Actually, the dealership gets little as this service is contracted out to a local auto detailing shop. We have used it on both of our previous vehicles and will continue to get this protection on future vehicles. In my opinion, it is well worth it!! Just to let you know we are not in the 80's or 90's anymore, the products offered by my dealership have been refined and are alot better quality than in the old days. Dealerships are always under scrutiny for making a "profit", but doesn't all services have a profit. I would definetly ask about the warranty that comes with the interior protection. It is a great product and protects the interior of the car. :soapbox:

P.S. Caltex is the product that I know of this website should give you some insight on the product and the type of warranty and protection you should receive. if you need anything else just ask. http://www.ctpc.com/
