8 Inch LCD staying on after opening/closing door

I noticed this morning that after opening the door and closing it that the 8 inch LCD stayed on and would not go off. I have the drivers entry package with the push button start. The 4 inch and 8 inch displays turn on (as a white background) and then they all usually turn off after 20 seconds after opening/closing the door. I didn't have the chance to see if it would go off after 10 minutes. When driving into work and then shutting the engine off it worked fine. Then after opening the door again (with engine off), the 8 inch display stayed on. I did notice a small flicker that it was "thinking" about going off but then it stayed on. I started and then turned it off so I didn't risk running down the battery while I was at work.

Should I do a reset by pulling a fuse? Or is this a dealer fix? Had the Edge for just under two weeks and this is the first problem.

Thanks.

Mine does the same thing, but it does eventually turn off. There is just a long lag time...a bit like the way the headlights stay on when you get out.

I do not believe it is a defect or anything to worry about.

As we call it in the software development world...it's an "Undocumented Feature"

I think we've found several "Undocumented Features" in the MyTouch

I may have not noticed that this was happening before today. Yes - an undocumented feature! My personal preference would be to keep the LCDs off and just use the overhead lamp and ambient lighting if just opening/closing the door to get something out of my Edge. I will experiment when I get home tonight to see how long it takes to shutoff.

I noticed that if I just shut my door when I get home the screen will stay on till.... (not sure don't stay and watch), but if I lock the door, the screen powers right off.

I like the undocumented feature.

Looks like it's a common problem if you go to this forum...

Thanks for the link. The OP has the problem spelled out and is the same I noticed. After turning off the engine and getting out and shutting the door everything works fine. It's when you go back and then open/close the door that the LCD stays on. I haven't tried locking yet since I only discovered this today. If it stays on for 20 minutes (as one of the posters indicated) that is way too long.

I noticed just now that when I turned off the car then opened the door, all of my displays turned off.

I went back out to the car and messed around with it (trying to fix the Easy Entry seat issue) Now when I got out, the two 4" displays stayed white while the 8" turned off when I exited and locked.

EDIT:

I just drove home and when I shut down and opened the door, all displays went off

Tested the length of time the center display stays white - went off after 10 minutes. Locking using key fob turns it off. Also touching the "audio off" on the Sony system turns it off but not before the Ford logo is displayed. I'm guessing this is a software issue and will be fixed with an update. I don't think Ford meant to have the display stay on for this length of time.

also locking via the door keypad (two buttons on right simultaneously) will turn off the 8" monitor

Our 2011 Edge does the same thing. We get white screens on all three of the displays (center and two small lcd displays). It takes a long time to eventually shut off. Whats strange is that pressing the audio button toggles the white screen/radio on and off. With or without the key inserted.

I have played with this and found 3 solutions, one of which was mentioned in an above post. As you have observed, if you get out and lock the driver's door, the screen does not stay on. If you do not lock it and open another door (like to remove groceries or something), then it comes back on with the light blue coloured light. If you lock the doors with the button on the inside door panel, it does NOT extinguish the light. If you lock the door in one of 3 ways, either by the numbered buttons on the driver's door or by pushing the black button on the door handle for those who have the intelligent key or lastly, by pushing the lock button on the remote will extinguish the light. You need to retrain yourself for the time being to lock it this way. It will kill the battery if allowed to stay on long enough.

^^^Many who have had the software upgrade have said that it did solve the white screen issue. I just got the update today and the white screen issue still occurs for me. :S Now i'm not sure if they actually gave me the correct update and will need to check that as all my settings were retained.

How long are you waiting?

Mine goes off when the exterior lights go off, around 20 seconds after I close the door? This is after the latest upgrades, BD and BE!

Good point. Mine goes in Friday to get the update. The night light is the only problem I'm having with it right now.

All other lights are off, interior and exterior, but the white screen remains. So they should all go off at the same time or within seconds of each other. I'm sure the 10min (or 20min whatever) power saver does eventually turn off the screen, but its still a glitch that should be fixed.

It looks liek the sync update i got from the dealer yesterday was AJ, not BD or BE. But syncmyride isnt showing anything ourstanding for my vehicle. :S So confused!

I was seeing strange results on SyncMyRide yesterday when i was using Google Chrome. I would hit refresh but Chrome was still caching the old info. I went to Internet Explorer and was able to see where (AJ) was installed then BE after that.

have you used the Status checker app found on SyncMyRide?

I was using firefox and now just checked it in IE and the same result on both. I did use the USB status checker tool and thats what shows that AJ was instaleld yesterday and says that nothing else is in the queue for me.

This is what my confirmed installs screen looks like (see attachment)

If you don't see the BE in there then something went wrong with the update
