DesertEagle
I recently purchased a 2011 Edge SEL. Although the stock 6 speaker system is decent in my opinion, I am looking to replace the speakers with higher quality ones. The standard speakers are plenty loud enough and I do not plan on blasting music. For anyone that has performed speaker upgrades before, would I really notice much of a difference by replacing the stock speakers? I do not plan to buy an amplifier if I can get by without one. Would new speakers even be worth it without an amp? Anyone know how much wattage is put out by the stock system? I did not plan on purchasing a sub-woofer either since it would take up space and nice speakers probably have decent enough base response. Any thoughts or information about the stock system would be appreciated.
rogersmj
I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you, but I'm wondering the same thing...I'd like to give the SEL stereo a bit of a boost with just a speaker swap out so if you do it or anyone else does, please post about the results. It's a common upgrade and does improve the sound. A good set of infinity kappas or polk audio components will work great and aren't super expensive. Crutchfield.com will show you what fits and what doesn't. If you order from them you get wiring adapters and detailed instructions.

They don't have any speaker information yet. Just a matter of time I suppose.

Ford has been using the same size door speakers forever (5x7/6x8), so just use the 2010 model for now to see options and confirm before you actually place the order. Thanks akirby. Do you know any information about the stock "head unit" power rating? I just want to make sure there is enough power to drive upgraded speakers. Also, do you happen to know where the 5th and 6th speakers are since there is one in each of the four doors? I can't seem to find them and don't see any small tweeters that might be them either. Ford counts 2-way coax speakers as 2 separate speakers. Not sure how that adds up in the Edge.

Not sure how that adds up in the Edge. I would imagine then that the 6 is totaled by the 2 front speakers and the 2 rear coax speakers. I wouldn't mind an Amp but I don't know how/if it would affect the SYNC system.
