Trouble Shooting Guide & FAQ's

Hey Everyone,

As this forum continues to grow with more and more 2011 Edge owners each day, myself personally have started to lose track of all the postings lately and where I saw the answers to some of my questions e..g which thread was it in, what page, etc....

I am trying to create 1 common place which will be more or less a bank of FAQ's with answers, along with problems + solutions people have reported over the various threads already created.

I hope to make this thread a place where people can come to quickly find an answer to their question or simply browse through a bunch of answers or solutions to various concerns without having the search throughout different topics spread out on many pages.

Hopefully it will contain as many answers to the most common questions we've been seeing, along with remedies to some repeated "problems" and how people have fixed them or what needs to be done to fix it.

Feel free to post any problems or challenges you may have had and how you’ve fixed it, questions and answers to specific questions you have asked or know people will probably look for and I will take your posts and add it to the “master list”

Should any of the information found below not be accurate, need modification or elaboration, please let me know so i can update.

Hopefully this thread would be considered for a "sticky" once it gets built up, it will take me a few days but I am committed to working on it and will continually maintain and update it every moment I get.

I hope people will find this thread useful in one way or another.

Thanks,

Tony

Here's a tip I posted on linking the IA keys to the seat/mirror memory postions:

Do not do step #4 in the programming process described in the owners manual!!!!

The manual gives the following instructions:

Programming the memory feature to the transmitter

To activate this feature:

1. Move the driver seat and power mirrors to the desired positions using

the associated controls.

2. Press and hold button 1 for five

seconds. A tone will be heard after

about two seconds confirming

memory position has been set.

Continue to hold until a second tone

is heard after five seconds.

3. Within three seconds press "icon for lock th door".

4. Press "icon for unlock" <---------- Do not do this!!!!!!! It actually clears the programing you just entered. Wait at least 20 seconds before you press unlock!.

5. Repeat this procedure for memory 2 and another transmitter if

desired.

Now when my wife presses unlock on her IA key, the seats and mirrors automatically move to her position and when I press unlock on mine, they change to my positions and I don't have to have my knees hitting he in the chest. Yeah!!

This made it so much easier to do mine - thanks for finding this one out early for the rest of us. :happy feet:

guess I will have to get the manual out again, from reading this when the unlock is pressed it moves to position. How about moving back to aid in getting in and out?? maybe mine is just programmed to go to "my position" when I start the car. I did do programming steps but I just did the press button 1 part when in desired position. so the way mine behaves is that it is all the way back when I get in, pressing start moves it to my position. Turning off car moves it all the way back, to aid getting out. I kind of like it this way. I have a lesser tendency to scuff the door pockets with my feet getting out.

The way I understand it, the seat will not move forward until you are in the seat and starting the car. All other memory settings (ie mirrors and seat tilt up/down) will move to the saved settings when you unlock with the Fob.

I had my Edge at the dealer today to "fix" the memory seat.

So here's what I found out...

1 - You have to program the seat with the power in accessory mode only.

If you try to program the seat while the car is running it will remember all the other features you've set, e.g. lumbar, tilt, mirror but it will not move the seat forward.

2 - Program the seat for memory button 1 or 2 then turn the power off.

3 - Then turn the power on (acc only) program the key fob then turn the power off.

According to the dealer the seat is supposed to move back almost all the way to allow for easy access. When you unlock the door the seat adjusts everthing except the forward position. Then when the start button is pushed or key turned the seat should move to the desired position.

Mine is working great now. I guess when I first set it up at the dealer we were in accessory mode. Then the next few times I adjusted it the car was on so it only saved the lumbar and mirror positions.

  • 2 months later...

there is nothing in the manual that points out the location or even describes the memory seat

Sure it does. Page 149. http://www.motorcraftservice.com ->owner guides

It says the buttons are on the instrument panel.

And please start a new topic for a new question instead of hijacking multiple existing threads.

And please start a new topic for a new question instead of hijacking multiple existing threads.

1. Thanks for the info, i don't have this explanation on pg 149 of my owner guide.

2. The question is relevant to this thread as there are posts of button 1 and 2 but make no reference to where they are. I was searching on my drivers seat for them so this clears it up for all instead of someone having to search another thread.

3. It looks as though the memory seat option is available on the limited and above only. Can anyone confirm this please as my salesman told me that I should have this option on my SEL AWD. Can someone please confirm where exactly on the instrument panel these buttons are located?

Thanks.

They are on the left of the steering wheel on my limited. I don't know about the SEL - if your sales person told you something was there, make them show you where they are.

If you go to www.fordvehicles.com->Crossovers->Edge->Models and do a compare of the SEL and Limited you'll see that memory seats are only available on the Limited and not on the SEL. NEVER believe ANYTHING the dealer tells you - always verify yourself anything that you really care about.

And if you follow the link I gave you then you will see the reference to memory seats on page 149, even if it's not in your copy for some reason.
