tlim66
On the Ford Edge, how does the TPS system work. ie does it sense the actual pressure of each tire, or does it sense rotational speed differential of the different wheels as some vehicles do. And how long is the expected life span of one of these sensors? I assume they must be battery powered to transmit a signal, therefore can only last for so long before needing a battery replacement, or possibly the whole sensor replaced??? Waldo
All Ford vehicles use a direct sensor that measures the actual pressure in the tire. I would expect the batteries to last at least 10 years, since they are programmed to "go to sleep" when the tires are not spinning. Plus when you are driving down the road and everything is normal, the sensors only emit a signal once every 2 minutes.
Twiggy2cents
Early ford systems on windstars used the abs speed sensor signals to measure tire pressures. The sensors are said to last the life of the vehicle. They cost $50 a piece at the dealer and if you replace a rim you get a big hose clamp for an easy $50 dollars too. Cheap technology when compared to the technology of the hose clamp?
