carfaninpa
I have been looking forward to seeing these cars at dealers. I usually drive a higher end luxury car so I was looking to possibly buy an MKX fully loaded with the Elite package. I want to sit in one and drive one before I make a decision. I have read a few posts online indicating that the +/- $8,000 price difference between a loaded Edge and a loaded MKX is not worth it and to just buy an Edge. I like the look of the front of the Edge more than the MKX but if I buy a loaded Edge, what will I be giving up vs a loaded MKX? Has there been any discussion of the differences in these two vehicles specifically with the 2011 models? I can see the center stack on the dash is a bit different. I assume the MKX has a quieter cabin? better sound system? better interior finishes? What are the differences?

It was very expensive but I really loved the ride. I have a Ford Edge Sport on order with all the options. I chose between that and the MKX fully loaded. The MKX only comes with the large engine (3.7 6cyl). The Edge Sport has that engine too. The Edge limited, SE and SEL only have the 3.5 6cyl. with a future option for the ecoboost engine. You are correct about the interior stuff being different and maybe the leather is a little different in the MKX. Personally I chose the Edge Sport because I like the interior and exterior better than the MKX. It is sportier in my opinion. The MKX is more refined than sporty. The price being cheaper is also something to consider. I really dont think the difference is worth it for the MKX if you compare fully loaded options. It boiled down to style for me. In terms of performance, I know that I may be stepping down a little, but we will see when I do the actual driving of the new sport model. My old car cost 90% more than this one. I doubt the performance will be too much of a change. I can buy another whole car with the money I will be saving....HMMM (boss maybe??). Best of luck making your decision. Grey
The cost of ownership has many factors. The MKX has a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty, more amenities and comfort, and higher resale value (figure about $4,000 more at 3 years out.) We leased an MKX and loved it so much, I bought a sister vehicle - the Ford Edge. And while the Edge was a great vehicle, we always wanted to drive the MKX. When the MKX lease was up (24 months) it was worth more than the residual value so we traded in the Edge and kept the MKX. I don't think you will be disappointed with either one, but you will be delighted with the MKX for luxury. If you want sporty, go with the Edge. ablb
We traded up  from an X3. The biggest thing we miss about the BMW is not getting to tell our Caddy, BMW, etc friends that “we have to take the X3 in this week .” ab
