07 Steering Wheel AUDIO Control Malfunction

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone Im new to the forum here, but I have a what i think is a ODD question. My 2007 Edge is at the dealer now FOR OVER A WEEK! because my steering wheel audio controls (sometimes) ALOT FOR ME (apparently NOT AT ALL FOR THE DEALER) you will turn the volume up *note using steering wheel controls* and you will go to turn it down and the volume goes up instead (now this doesn't happen all the time but ALOT! a real LOT. and every once in a while not often at all you will turn the volume down and it will change to the next preset (which would be the button just below the volume down control) now its been at the dealer for a week and it hasn't done it to them once, SOOOOOO of coarse there is nothing they can do for me. Im not taking my car back until they fix it. LOL

I guess my question is: Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone heard of this happening? If so how did they fix it or how can you fix it? *or what should i tell the dealer since they SUCK!* Or what are some things i can check to see if one of thing or more is faulty? what could cause this?

Sorry for the drawn out dumb question but im very frustrated with this.... HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP THANKS!!!

I just noticed this happening with our 2008. The volume would increase, even if pressing the volume "-" button. I didn't plan on taking it to the dealer yet because it's been very intermittant.

Akirby,

Can you elaborate on your respose a little? Thanks,

The clock spring is the device inside the steering wheel hub that looks like a wound clock spring (thus the name). It maintains electrical contact between the steering wheel and the wiring for the buttons and the horn while still allowing the steering wheel to rotate. When it goes bad you either get no electrical connection or random ones. It's an easy fix but requires pulling the steering wheel which contains the airbag.

Yes, My 2007 ford edge battery gone dead. I replaced the battery and every thing is fine except the audio controls on steering wheel. It is not responding at all. I can control direct from the audio set but not from steering controls. Other controls on steering wheel like temp. fan. and cruise control works fine.

Any one faced this?

Thanks in advance

Try pulling the fuse for the radio to reset it.

Strange! I have only one button that doesn't work on my steering wheel, and that is the 'hangup' button. So when I want to end a call, I either have to use the 4-way button and the small screen, or the 'end' button on the large screen, depending on the mood that the computer's in. Despite that, it sounds like I'm getting off easy!
