NitroSteel
I noticed yesterday that on my new (to me) 2008 Ford Edge SEL AWD that the antenna over the windshield was broken off at the black plastic base. It is the simple am/fm antenna, not a satelite radio model. The radio reception is now not what it should be unless I am in town... I can probably get the threaded portion of the antenna out of the base and just thread another antenna into it. The base itself is not damaged, however in the event that I cannot remove the remainder of the treaded stud I assume I will have to replace the entire piece. I have a few questions regarding this: How is this piece attached (detached?) from the hood of the vehicle? Where is the best source to obtain this at a reasonable price? Should I just take it to the dealership and let them do it? Thank ya'll for your help. NitroSteel
NitroSteel
By the way, as you can see I am new as a user on this forum. I wanted to put out a big "thank you" to all of you for the information posted on this site. I have used this site as a resource in choosing a vehicle for quite some time, just never actually joined or posted. Thank you again for the abundance of information and your help. 07CRUSH
Welcome NitroSteel, it,s really simple remove the overhead light/sunglass console and you will see a bold. Remove bolt and pull up on antenna base.
NitroSteel
Thank you! That's simple enough. With it removed from the vehicle it will be much easier to try and remove the remainder of the existing antenna. I assume it was "threaded" in, right? Lex Talionis
the antennas are generally hand tight, I am willing to bet you will be able to get out the threaded stud easily and just might have to use a pair of needle nose vise grips at worst
NitroSteel
Well, it is broken off to short to get the needlenose vise grips on it. I've taken part of the light console apart and have been able to get the bolt that loosens the black box on top of the car. Now the black box is loose and it seems like it would just pull right out, but it is if something is keeping it from lifting up more than about 1/4 of an inch. I can't see any clips holding it in either from above or below, but something is holding it. I'm planning on taking it off of the vehicle and drilling out the old antenna that is broken inside (using an easy-out) I've not completely removed the sunglass holder, because I can't see exactly what's holding it in and I don't want to break anything. Is there something behind here that is holding in the box? What is holding the box from sliding out of the roof of the car? Thank you. Lex Talionis
easy out tap was my next comment you could also JB Weld a small bolt to the nub and when it dries, twist it out Edited July 30, 2010 by Lex Talionis
psteinkr
I have the same problem mentioned in this thread -- an antenna that is broken off in the antenna base of my 2008 Ford Edge SE. The antenna base, which is mounted on the roof, is damaged, and I've purchased a replacement. I thought I'd be able to just unscrew the existing base from the car, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to access the base from the bottom to get at the bolt that is holding it to the roof. The advice provided above mentions getting access by removing the interior light console / sunglass holder. But how is this attaced to the roof? I've tried prying it loose, but it feels like I'm going to break it before it comes loose. Anyone have any experience with this?
