Remote Start on 2010

Hello ... I have a new 2010 Edge Limited which was manufactured 6/10. I want to install a remote start system. Upon talking to a local installer, and after him seeing that I have "HA" stamped on my ignition key, he informed me that my vehicle has the new 80 bit encryption and none of the current PATS bypass boxes will work with 80 bit encryption. To verify what he was saying I called the vendor's help line for the product he carries, which is Code Alert by Audiovox, and the tech said that the installer was correct. The remote start could be installed and would work, but I would have to use the "key in a box" solution which means leaving a key hidden in the car. He also said that all remote start systems, including Ford branded systems, have the same problem. Any key with "SA" or "HA" indicates the vehicle is using the new 80 bit encryption. The absence of those stampings indicates the older 40 bit encryption which is not a problem. He says that until the makers of the bypass boxes overcome the new encryption problems the key hidden in the car is the only option. Anyone else run into this issue and is hiding a key in the car the only solution?

Check with Ford. According to this online retailer Ford makes a PATS interface kit for the 2010 Fusion that goes with the Ford remote start kit.

Sorry - forum confusion. I would call Ford to be sure - I can't believe they would sell remote start factory kits that don't have a bypass.

Just letting everyone know that I've gotten conflicting opinions regarding whether Ford has begun using the new 80-bit PATS encryption on 2010 Edges from two dealers and a private installer and a national OEM vehicle key supply chain. One stated that the key may be stamped with "HA" but the 80-bit systems are only going in the 2011 model and later. I've contacted Ford and my question has been escalated to their research department and someone would be calling me back within two days. That was this past Thursday so we'll see what happens.

Ford replied that the question was too technical for their research specialist to answer. Advised me to go back to the dealer. Even with the VIN# they couldn't tell me if my car has the new 80-bit or older 40-bit encryption. Makes you wonder ...........

Kinda recall on my 2008 Escape a key was put in, had the dealer install the viper remote start. Had to pay for the extra key.
