2011 Sport V6 300+hp gas mileage?

I've had my Edge Sport for a month now.

I've filled it up 3 times. Most of my driving is local - 40-45 MPH max with traffic lights. I'm getting 16 MPG and I don't generally drive it hard. On the other hand, I've done a fair amount of idling to troubleshoot MyFordTouch issues, so that would impact overall mileage.

I'll be doing some highway miles for the Holiday this week. It will be interesting to see what it does for me with 2 adults and 3 dogs in the car (I doubt that the Dachshund's 12 pounds will have an impact, but combined the other 2 are about 110 pounds...)

Glad to oblige. :-)

Steve, thanks so much for posting those. She looks SO much like the one my parents had ("Otto") . My dad was a GM dealer and used to call him "Ottomobile", LOL. That breed absolutely steals your heart. We have had 4 different ones in my family over the years. I miss them. Thanks.

You're welcome, Richy.

Yes, they are a wonderfully goofy breed.

As for the thread topic, I'm half through the trip this weekend. On the 1st leg the Edge Sport got just shy of 22 MPG with an average highway speed of 65 to 70 MPH. We had some slow traffic due to weather (rain/sleet) in the first hour and a half, but after that it was smooth sailing. I know we'll have lots of traffic tomorrow, so mileage is bound to be lower.

Been averaging 21-22 mpg(!!!) going back and forth to work, which is about 50 miles round trip, mixed driving. The computer is usually spot on with my calculations. Couldn't be happier with the fuel economy, for something with 305 horsepower and 22" wheels... B)

I'm taking a road trip in it (about 900 miles round trip) this weekend, so I'm excited to see what it gets then. I'll report back

Update: I should mention, this is a FWD Edge Sport, and it's in Louisiana, so no extreme cold or snow.

Still averaging 18.3-19.0 on my 22 minute, 14 mile commute, AWD w/ BAMR. I'm sure that sucker adds some extra weight. Not bad, hoping it'll get better, but considering weight, power, and wheel size....not to mention my short commute, If I said anything short of being happy i'd be lying

Yeah - I am really pleased too. I took a hit but I knew I would. I replaced a 99 5 speed escort with nothing so light as a feather and could drive and drive and drive..... loved that little car and it is still running like a dream. Just was time to upgrade. LOVE my edge.

I recceived delivery of a 2011 Sport model in December and am having the worst luck with fuel economy. About 1300 on the odometer and he average is in the high 14's. Terrible. Also, maximum of about 210 miles driving range per tank. Terrible. I watch the guages and the bar graphs regularly, more than the speedometer. No help. The rpm's have never been higher that 4000, not once, and seldom above 3000 rpm's. I would like to see how it accelerates from a stop but have abstained due to ;possibly emptying my fuel tank.

The features and technology are great on the Edge and I thoroughly enjoy the panoramic sunroof.

Any guidelines or tips on raising the MPG'S?

My old 2001 Corvette had a 350 with 350HP and on the freeway I averaged 33MPG. City driving I got 26MPG.

Very easy to do with the correct gearing, at 70MPH I was at 1100 RPM.

I haven't seen any claims of +40 mpg, that would be simply amazing. Most reviewers are pegging the mileage in the low 30's, which is still phenomenal for a 300+ HP motor. Can you imagine our Dad's big block V8's pulling that off! :)

Here's a link I found, http://green.autoblog.com/2010/03/04/2011-ford-mustang-v6-gets-31-mpg-highway-first-ever-for-300-hp/

For one, don't run your autostart for long because that gets you 0.0 Mpg to factor into your fuel economy equation. Keep your car empty, no hauling around 6 cases of bottled water if you don't need to. Try not to gun it to get up hills, try to coast to red lights as soon as you see them, and use your CC on long hiway trips. Also keep a close eye on your tire pressure, it matters when your trying to get the best mpgs.

I'm getting between 20.2 and 20.6 MPG for one of my trip odo's that I reset when I took delivery of the car about 2 1/2 months ago - since then I've taken a couple trips but mostly it's back and fourth to work which is mostly highway but I'm seeing between 20.something and 23MPG on a tank full basis.

I generally start with a 405 or more range when I reset my trip odo and sharply goes down to 380 or so when I get on the road....

During one trip back from Michigan I was able to get 22.9 for quite some time - I was behind other cars and on a road that was 55MPH.

I had a 2011 Mustang with the six speed manual but the 3.73 real axle - I was only able to manage 26MPG at best - the funny part is that the Edge seems to cruise at a higher speed than the Mustang - you'd think it would be "easier" to speed in the 'stang but in fact the Edge seems to wanna go faster on the highway....

20.8 MPG average with the 3.7 Sport..... pretty much all highway miles . Is anybody getting anything better so far? 4800 on the odometer and shes about to get her first free oil change. I called the dealer and they said there is actually no "break-in" period for the new motors. He continued by telling me that i could regularly change the oil at every 7000 miles if i used fully synthetic. Almost to 5K and shes starting to sound more "throatier" B)

With 10K miles on the motor, I'm getting 23 - 24 MPG at 60 MPH. On a recent road trip to Montana, I was pushing it pretty hard on those wide open Interstates and the mileage definitely dropped to around 19 - 20 MPG. The sweet spot sure seems to be around 55 - 60 MPH for the best mileage.

As far as the oil changes go, I'm less inclined to believe any dealer and only change the oil when the system says to. My first oil change was right around 10K miles.

Almost at the 1k mark and im getting about 15.5 so far. Almost all stop and go city driving though, i hate the traffic here. @ FR200FOCUS- It's funny the dealer would say there is no "break in" period for the new engines, when in the owners manual it clearly states about the breaking in phase and how they dont recommend driving at the same speed for the first 1k. Also it has an adaptive shift which will "learn" your driving style. From my understanding it basically says try to drive it differently for at least the first 1k so that the seals break in properly and it can adapt to all the differet types of acceleration and shifting styles

Beyond ~6k on synthetics while the oil holds up the filters tend to clog and bypass. If you changed your filter at 5k and added a quart or so to top off you would avoid that issue.

On the break in, while the engine may be run at the factory for the initial break in, the fact is as it get's some mileage and things polish in it will improve as friction increases. The initial break in usually lets the rings seal but as the piston walls get polished with more mileage friction will be reduced. Same for most other parts in the engine.
