Why did you get your Edge?

Wife needed a new ride. She has been driving minivans for the past 12 years. Last van was a 2004 Honda Odyssey.

It was time to get rid of the minivan - Kids have "outgrown" it.

 

She didn't want a sedan. We don't need a big SUV (I have an F150 for hauling/pulling trailers).

We looked at the Lexus RX, Infinity FX and Nissan Murano.

The Edge had more of what she wanted at a better price.

 

And I prefer to buy American when I can.

My DD is a Honda S2000 and sometimes I need a little more space. What a change sports car to crossover.

 

My all time favorite vehicle was my 1995 Ford Bronco XLT 5.8L. One thing I don't miss is 10.5 mpg 32 gallon tank

My wife has started to feel unsafe in her current 2010 Mustang (yeah I don't really have my Edge yet, waiting on our 2011 Sport), we have two American Pitbull Terriers and a Basenji (need the room), she doesn't trust the safety/reliability of the trusty '91 Landcruiser for long hauls when we travel with the dogs. And of less importance, there is the fact that it provides more room for her family members that visit us from Czech Republic every 20.125 years......we must accommodate.

No actually I think it is the fact the fact that the Edge is more open and cavernous than the Mustang....probably the illusion of it being bigger as well (relatively speaking). But I never asked her about the sitting higher topic...could be.

It's only frustrating when she refuses to drive my Fusion because it "sits too low".

 

If I accelerate with more than 50% throttle she thinks we're about to die - even if it's on a dry sunny day with no traffic. Yet she thinks cruising at 85 mph in a top heavy station wagon is perfectly safe.

This could be a conversation between me and my hubby. I am tired of sitting so low in my escort, so I spent three months debating between the escape and the edge to decide what sits higher.

 

The only difference is in Alaska there is about 10 trucks for every 1 little car - so tired of those headlights in my mirror and can't see around the trucks on the highway and pretty sure they plain couldn't see me since my roof only came to the top of their tires.

 

But I love the "sits to low" that just made me smile.

I went pickup shopping, while test driving one I drove it home and parked it in my garage. This thing was so big that I would have had to restructure my garage and still once it was in, I'd have to shimmy around it to get in and out. What a pain.

 

I drove to a Ford dealership and test drive the smaller Sport Trac, hated it. The sales guy talked me into taking the Edge out.

 

Needless to say, I now own the Edge.

 

Just bought it from a different dealer.

I've always been a huge fan of Japanese cars. I've had Honda (Civic/Accord), Acura (TL) and Nissan (Pathfinder), never owned an American made car. When I started looking for a new vehicle late last year, I was leaning towards a crossover or a small SUV and was strongly considering Acura RDX and Infinity FX 35. After driving a rear wheel drive TL for the last 4 years I knew i had to go to something with AWD. I loved the car, but living in New England you need an AWD and i couldn't go another winter without being able to effectively drive in the snow. My first choice was an Acura RDX, however after I test-drove one, I felt cramped (i'm 5'11) in and quite frankly I thought 2011 RDX looked and felt more like a Subaru Forester (no offense to Subaru owners) rather than it's cousin MDX. The price was right, but it just felt more like a car than a small SUV. Next I looked at Infinity FX35, i actually liked it a lot, it looked great and felt like a "real" SUV. Unfortunately the price tag was a little too hight with all the bells and whistles I wanted, just couldn't justify such high monthly payment. Just by chance i saw EDGE on the road one day, and it immediately struck me as a thing of beauty. I started researching it, and as i learned more about it, i liked it more and more. After my first test drive, i got an EDGE bug . It was exactly what i was looking for; beautiful on the outside and sophisticated on the inside. It drives like a small SUV and not like a truck or a car and is loaded with comfort and technology. MFT is a amazing, i read a lot about how slow and unresponsive it was, and it by far exceeded my expectations. It works great and does everything i need and more. I ended up getting AWD SEL 202a package w/NAV and BLISS, it just made more scene financially over LTD. I've had it for just over a month now, but so far i'm extremely happy with my decision, the only concern is the quality of an American made vehicle overtime. I've been spoiled by reliability of Japanese cars for years, and i'm hopping that EDGE will stuck up to the the imports overtime.

I got my first SUV in 2003, a Ford Escape company car. After driving that for a while I found I really liked it over small Japanese cars. After changing careers and handing in the company car ( and gas card) I bought a 2005 Escape. In 2008 I went to my dealer for a recall repair and left with a 08 Edge limited with 20" wheels loaded with everything but headrest DVD players. I so thoroughly enjoyed my edge that I planned to buy out the lease.....until I laid eyes on the Sport model! Needless to say as soon as I saw it, I knew I was buying it to keep it and now we have a fully loaded 11 Sport.

I absolutely loved the "edgy" styling and the fact that my blood runs blue. Test drove the car with absolutely no thought of buying......4 hours later she was sitting in the driveway.

We needed something bigger for the family after our first child and driving around in a Peugeot 307 meant we ran out of space pretty fast. The pug also got uncomfortable and tiring over long journeys. Hence we wanted something relatively roomy but at the same time sporty too. The CUV just has such a young feel to it that we went for it over the Nissan Murano. Also the styling is much better.

Wife needed a car... didn't have any.... I needed something bigger since was tired of rubbing my head against the Mazda 3 roof.... (6' 8.5" person) so I got the Edge and gave my wife the Mazda 3, that is still a pretty nice car for her

We traded our 03 Xterra for an Edge this weekend and I am loving it. The ride is much smoother, I still have plenty of space to lug the basset hound around and the kids have lots of room. The salesperson at the Ford dealership told me that the Edge was voted the #1 vehicle for pets in 2010. Not the sole reason that I bought it, but I am sure Baxter appreciates it. We wanted one with a DVD player for the children but could not find one anywhere close with the other features I wanted. So I ordered a mounted DVD player from Best Buy and they are going to install it this weekend. While looking, we considered a Murano, our Xterra was a tank and very reliable, and we are from Tennessee so we like to support the Nissan plants. But my husband is an aerospace engineer and was very impressed by Ford's CEO (who used to work for Boeing) and how they did not take any bailout money. Plus, it is just a well made car.

 

Here is my question for you guys- I have never owned a vehicle with a tan interior before. The floor is in good shape, but there are a few dingy places. What is the best way to clean it and get the high traffic spots out? Also, the leather interior. Do I need to scotchguard the seats?

NOOO! Do NOT scotchguard leather seats! That's only for carpet and fabric. And that's the best protection for the floors and mats. Just use regular carpet cleaner if it gets dirty.
