2008 AWD LTD: Reverse lights are too dim

Hi All -

 

New Edge owner here. Just purchased a 2008 AWD LTD last week. I was at a friend's house the other night on a very dark street. When I got into my Edge and put it in reverse, I could hardly see at all as I was reversing. The reverse lights seem to work but are not illuminating that well when in reverse on a dark night. I did the same thing last night with my wife so she could see the problem.

 

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Possible solutions?

Check your bulbs, a PO may have changed them?

 

Or try something like these, they MIGHT help a little.

Welcome to the forum, have some one look while you put the Edge in reverse to make sure they are all working.

I had a problem with my '06 Explorer Limited with rear turn signal bulbs not always working. Took it to the dealer,they had to replace the rear wiring harness. When they found the problem, they said that the backup lights were also very dim ! Your problem might be related, I don't know.

If they're coming on at all - then it's a bulb issue. I'd replace them with an LED bulb because those are always super bright and come in all shapes and sizes. Some guys on my Lotus forums use this site: http://superbrightleds.com

 

I believe these are the bulb sizes for the 08 Edge

Low Beam Headlight Bulb Size: H11

High Beam Headlamp Light Bulb Size: 9005

Parking Light Bulb Size: 3157NALL

Front Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 3157NALL

Rear Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 4157LL

Tail Light Bulb Size: 4157LL

Stop Light Bulb Size: 4157LL

High Mount Stop Light Bulb Size: LED

Fog/Driving Light Bulb Size: H11

License Plate Light Bulb Size: 6418

Back Up Light Bulb Size: 921

Rear Side Marker Light Bulb Size: 194

Map Light Bulb Size: 2825 or 3886X

Dome Light Bulb Size: 578

Step/Courtesy Light Bulb Size: 2825 or 37

 

You'd need a new 921 size bulb but I'd pull the old one out first and read what it says on it to be sure that's the right size.

they're about $5.95 a piece in Cool White or Natural White

I think part of the problem (if not ALL of the problem) is the design and location of the backup lamps. They're very high off the ground and produce a very narrow vertical beam when compared to other vehicles.
