22x9.5" Chrome Wheels on MKx

Im looking into getting these wheels for my MKx... avarus_av1_c_ci3_l.jpg

They'll fit apparently but Tirerack "recommends" an awefully narrow tire in my opinion and overall the height is shorter than stock. I have a 265/60-18 on the 18x7.5" stockers right now (at all 4 corners) and it definitely needs some more tire in the rear. I would really like to mount a 305/35-22 for the rear and perhaps keep it a bit more narrow in the front with a 265/40-22 to keep the profiles of the tires (front to back) looking the same.

I believe there may just be enough room to fit a 305 out back by using this calculator I found online...

http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

First though, do you folks think this may be the right style of wheel for the "bling" of the MKx?

I've never been a big fan of chrome wheels but those look nice man. I guess the only real way to see if they fit is to head down to your local tire shop and have them fit some rims and tires for ya I'm sure they would accommodate you and if you bring the print out of what the cost of the rims and tires are online they would probably match if not beat the price, at least the shops I have used in the past have done that for me. And of course if you end up getting some new shoes you have to post the pics. :happy feet:

I think those wheels look real nice.

But a couple of things, first off stock tires are 245/60/18=9.65" X 29.58", not 265/60/18=10.43" X 30.51".

Of course all numbers are if tires were built to exact size standards, which very few are.

So you are wanting to go from a 245 about 9.65" wide, to a 305 about 12" wide, that is a lot of rubber.

And if you have AWD, you will want the same size tires all around.

Even if it is FWD, I think you would be better going with same size all around, so you will still be able to rotate them.

Oops, I just checked the tire specs and they are indeed 245/60-18. My bad...

This means that I can move on to a 285/35-22 without issue or I can try to squeeze those 305's (305/30-22 now) if there is an all-season tire out there in that size. In a 30 profile, I highly doubt it though. :P

Dan, i put 305/40/-22 on my sel awd and had no problems...i added foose 22" wheels also. i also installed h&r lowering springs to bring it down even more. I am going to try and upload a picture of an edge with the wheels and a 3d carbon body kit that i have ordered and should arrive next week.

Hey Saleen, which Foose wheels are you getting?

I was looking at the Spank 5 in a 20" size or American Racing Casino in 20"

I'm sure the 22's look sick, but I think I'll opt for the 20's for a more subtle upgrade.

Let me know what series your wheels are, and what you think of my choices.

What if any difference would the 20's or 22's have on mpg's? I think they both look sweet, especially that tricked out one with 22's

And how does it handle with those size wheels (both local and highway)

Thanks. Oh and get some pics in here once you do everything SALEEN!

you figure if you throw on 22's, you can afford a few less mpg, which wouldn't be THAT much. my guess is the handling is gonna be a lot more tight (have bigger low pro wheels on my grand am). improved the handling in my case.

ty. Man Hodge your grand am looks pretty sweet. I was never a big Grand Am fan but those tires and your tinit with the LED's or Neon....great job!

I think maybe I will stick to the 18's maybe 20's maybe? I really like the chrome wheels on the MkX's will they fit the Edges?

Saleen,

I checked out the lowering and it looks tight!

How much lower? 2" maybe?

I was also looking at an expedition in a parking lot today with 20" customs wheels and it looked like it will be real big on my edge when mounted.

I can only imagine what the 22's will look like.

By the way, did your wheel guy confirm the offset on the wheels your mounting to make sure that you won't be effecting the ride or steering?

I had to pas over some wheels in order to get a wheel that fits the requirements.

You can mount any wheel that has the same lug pattern, but if the offset is different you may effect the steering and handling of the vehicle.
