akirby
Does anyone know if the new nav system software ("My Ford Touch") coming out with the 2011 models will be available for upgrade on prior models (e.g., 2010)? Very very doubtful. It's not just the nav display - it's also integrated into the steering wheel and instrument cluster.
igcitng
My understanding is that it is totally different.
bcgibbons
That would be a bit of a bummer... It looks like a very cool system. Wishful thinking I suppose. It's a truth in life and technology, but it's always a bummer when you just get something then shortly thereafter something better comes along...! Waldo
It's not just the stuff you see, the ENTIRE electrical architecture is different. Not just different wires and buttons, but different networking protocol. You would have to change every electrical module in the vehicle, from the PCM to the ABS to the airbag controller and so on. What you're saying makes perfect sense. Seems like an upgrade could be made available to those who were so inclined (like myself who always strives for the latest and greatest). It would be great if at the least the compatible enhancements could be backwards compatible. Most simply the general update the look and feel of the interface would be nice. A relatively simple way to keep the system feeling "fresh".
Waldo
Is that all? :shades: No, you'd need to change the RCCM, the SPDJB, the DSM, DZM, RCM, the steering column, the cluster and even then the rear windshield wiper likely wouldn't work. It would actually be far easier to put the 2010 fascias and lights on a 2011 then to put the 2011 electrical stuff into a 2010! It's a little expensive but you get a lot with it. And the install time is just a few minutes!
