tukaniray
So ... I searched on the forum before asking ... doesn't seem like anyone has done this on their own here. Anyways, I was wondering if any of you know if this is like any other serpentine belt ... Find the Belt tensioner ... take off belt ... replace belt ... reroute and push tensioner again. Done deal ... Is there anything that is different or I should know about before tackling. Thanks. -Ray-
kiese02
Hello, i am not 100% sure but i believe the edge has to have a special tool to take the serpentine belt off. if i remember right there is no longer a standard tensioner that you can just release the pressure on and take the belt off, you now have to use this tool and basically run the belt off and then run the new one back on. i had asked a ford tech when we had our 07 before getting our 08 limited and that is how he explained it to me. i have not actually looked into anymore since i do not plan on having to change it anytime soon. let me know what you find out. tukaniray
Thanks ... I saw the tool ... and didn't know if I needed it. I was thinking because the Tensioner is way the hell up there ... but eh ... I'm checking it tomorrow. -Ray-
I8ACHEVY
Was anyone able to confirm how this is done? Is it as simple as using a belt tensioner tool on the belt tensioner, like other belts? What about the smaller belt behind the main belt? How does that come off? Thanks! thirdgenlxi
There's 2 belts, one has a regular tensioner you just release and remove the belt like any other, the other is a stretchy belt which you need the special tool to remove and install it as it uses no tensioner. They sell the tool at the parts stores for like $6.
I8ACHEVY
I was able to get the stretchy belt done without the tool, but I went thru about 10 zip ties in the process. Luckily a buddy had some industrial strength ties and the 2nd one of those actually held and handled enough torque so that we could spin the belt on. Definitely took a lot longer than it probably should have.
