lovemyedge
It took me 3 snow storms, countless back roads, hours of playing around, 3 feet of snow, abandon vehicles and a down tree to FINALLY get the Edge officially stuck. Figures it can go down an unplowed road no problem, back up 90% of the way no problem because of the down tree and abandon vehicles, and get stuck at the top half of an icy/shushy hill. Too bad we had to wait for someone to finally come along with a shovel. Fortunately, I now know that I should carry a shovel and some salt next time. Otherwise, using the old floor mats behind the tires works great. Repetitive but great. Anyone else having fun with all the snow? Get stuck?
igcitng
No vehicle can beat an icy hill. Sounds like you have really put it to the test. I have not driven in extreme snow, but have experienced a few bouts of very icy rain and snow, like today. Glad to know I can get through the snow and get to work when it hits. We are looking at getting 14 inches by tomorrow afternoon her. Ick.

lovemyedge
I wish I would have gotten pictures of it!! I have definitely put my edge to the test, its fun when you find out what it can take. For example, I found out that the SEL AWD can keep up with a new 5.7L V8 Toyota Tundra in a race( those sure aren't slow)...and can hold its own, if not beat, the Dodge Dakota v8 and the 5.9L Dodge Durango. It also does GREAT offroad (as long as you know your ground clearance). There is definitely a lot of hidden, unexpected power inside that little thing, and it definitely has never let me down. Well, maybe when it got stuck. Then again, that hill was a little much.
bulldog
after many years of commuting 84 miles daily, i got stuck saturday before last. took an onramp and as i neared the top (last 100ft or so) they decided NOT to plow that area. unfortunately my commuter car (08 hyundai accent) doesn't do well in 8" of snow/ice. i was FRUSTRATED and took over an hour to dig out of it. this was at about 5:45am. lesson learned: drive faster
mikelc2
I had a rather terrifying experience with my Edge and snow. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada, and about a month ago we got a very nasty snow storm. Now generally, to get home from the south end of the city i take a back grid road because it's much faster. Generally it is plowed, and even if it isn't the edge has no problems tackling a couple cm of snow. Well, I was driving down the road and notice the train ahead was stopped on the tracks not moving. So I figured I would go down the side road, and take the next road up to beat the train. I pulled up to the road, and was completely unplowed. Someone had already driven through it, and it looked like it was about 2-3 cm deep. So I went for it... well I was wrong. Turns out their 16" deep tracks and had been mostly filled with snow, and I was trying to plow through it in my Edge. Turned the traction control off, foot to the floor, and somehow I made it all the way to the train tracks. I was in the middle of nowhere, so calling for help would've been impossible. Of course, I get to the top of the little incline where the tracks are, and see that there is no road afterwards, just snow. Didn't want to risk it, so i turned around and gunned it back through my tracks, and made it all the way back. I couldn't believe that my edge had just done that, as i'm sure some trucks would've gotten stuck! As I finally hit the gravel on the road again, I noticed a tiny little "Road Closed" sign, half covered with snow. An experience for sure. feelin edgy
Why did you turn the traction control off?
akirby
Why did you turn the traction control off? In snow sometimes you need the wheels to spin so they dig through the snow to find traction underneath. In those cases traction control will only cause you to get stuck. The owner's manual even recommends it.
Manny Domingues
Last February here in Maryland we got 31 inches of snow where I live. The Edge was fantastic. was driving down unplowed roads. The look of the people riding their snow mobiles on the road was great. I don't think they were expecting to see a vehicle drive down the road for another day or two. I definately do recommend using the traction control On/Off feature. On when your cruising along but if your stopped and can't get traction turning it off for a bit gets you going again and then you turn it back on. When I stomp on the gas the sound is just beastly, or as my 6 y/o put it "Dad, it sounds like a race car!"
